We walk inside the building and see cars lined up in it. Interesting area. I lay down on the concrete floor as the guys walk around.
"They ain't here. Nobody's been here for a while. Whoever was, they got all the gas." Tony says.
"That don't matter. We're getting closer. I can feel it." Joe says.
Each of them men walked over to a car yelling out claim as Daryl walks around the room trying to figure out where to sleep. After everyone has claimed their car he lays down two feet away from me on the floor. The floor is always never claimed because everyone walks on it. Daryl gets up leaving his stuff beside me. I'm guessing to take a piss. I roll to my side facing away from his stuff. I didn't want him to think I was stealing. He comes back and lays back down beside me trying to catch some sleep. I don't sleep. I roll back on my back and stare at the ceiling. It helps me not fall asleep. I could never fall asleep in a group like this again. After what happened last time I'm scared to even bat an eyelash.
"Give it here." Len walks toward Daryl and I.
"You step back." Daryl takes his bag standing up.
"My half was in the bag. Now it's gone. Now ain't nobody around here interested in no half a damn cottontail except you. Ain't that right?" Lens says.
"You're the only one still thinking about that crap." Daryl says angrily. Being accused for something he didn't do.
"Empty your bag."
"Len, he didn't take it. I've been with him the whole time. Well other than him taking a piss." I sighed. When will he give up.
"You bitch, you don't know jack shit." Len catches me off guard shoving me to the ground. Daryl steps forward before Len could do anything else.
"I said step back." Daryl warns Len.
"What did you claim her? No? Then she don't belong to you." Len grins dangerously.
"She ain't nobodies. Harley girl is her own person. If she wants to be claimed she let us know." Joe smirks. The way they spoke about me made my stomach sick.
"Did you take his rabbit, Daryl? Just tell me the truth." Joe steps in.
"I didn't take nothing." Daryl says. He was telling the truth. Joe takes Daryl's bag and empties it on the ground. There roll out Lens part of the rabbit.
"You put that there, didn't you? When I went out to take a piss." Daryl yells. I didn't see if it happened but Im sure Len would do something like that.
"You lied. Didn't you? You lied. You stole. We gonna teach this fool or what, Joe?" Len says.
"Whoa, whoa. Now, Daryl says he didn't take your half of the rabbit.
So we got a little conundrum here.
Either he's lying, which is an actionable offense, or you didn't plant it on him like some pussy, punk-ass, cheating, coward cop, did you? 'Cause while that wouldn't be specifically breaking the rules, it'd be disappointing." Joe states."It would." Len agrees.
"Mm-hmm." Joe hums.
"I didn't." Len stares at Joe. He was lying.
"Good." Joe smiles at Len and punches him in the face.
"Well teach him a lesson, gents.
He's a lying sack of shit. I'm sick of it.
Teach him all the way. I saw him do it." Joe shrugs his shoulders."Why didn't you try to stop him?" Daryl asked.
"He wanted to play that out. I let him. You told the truth. He lied. You understand the rules. He doesn't.
Looks like you get the head, too." Joe picks the other half of the rabbit up throwing it to Daryl. Daryl bends down as he picks his stuff up."I'll help you." I hand him his bag.
"You not gonna join in Harley girl?" Tony calls over his shoulder as he kicks Len. It made me jump.
"No, you guys go ahead. Take all the action you want." I say quietly as Daryl looks me in the eyes. His eyes look down at my arm. I look at my arm and see the blood dripping on the floor. My eyes follow where I fell at and see glass shards.
"Its ok." I whisper. He nods his head and hands me a red rag. I pick the glass out of my arm and try to tie the rag off.
"Here." His voice grumbles as he wraps the rag around. We lay back down on the floor listening to the sound of Len screaming. We were laying closer then before.
"My sisters." I say quietly. Daryl rolls over to face me. I pull my backpack around, digging in it and pull out two granola bars. I toss one to Daryl who caught it without hesitation.
"I lost them. Well my older brother is out there some where. He's tough. But my sister she died. Her name was Skylar. She and I were on a hunting trip. We left my younger sister in a cabin not too far away. A group of men captured Skylar and I and raped her. They tied us to a tree with chains. Walkers over ran their camp as they feed Skylar to them I could hear her scream. The next night I slipped out of my chains and I hid all of their weapons. The guns, the knives, and anything that they could get their hands on. I hid it in the woods but kept one single knife." I scoot closer to Daryl so he could hear better other than Len screaming. We were six inches away from each other. He nods his head for me to continue.
"That morning when they woke up I killed them all. Except for one person. It was their leader he escaped. But everyone else was dead. My younger sister, Jay. I found her in the woods again. We tried to survive without Skylar because she taught me everything. Which I taught to Jay. Jay and I ran into a drugstore. Looking for food and bandages. She and I split up as walkers were falling through the roof. There were so many of them. More than three dozen. I tried looking for Jay. I couldn't find her anywhere. I killed all the walkers in that store and still didn't find her."
"That's when Joe and his group found me. When I was weak. He told me that I'd be a great addition to the group. I didn't miss one shot when I killed all of those walkers. And I thought it'd be ok for now to stick with them. Until I find Jay. Which I don't know if she is alive or dead. I still think she's alive to this day. I've only been with this group for a couple of weeks." I look down at the ground.
"I've never told anyone that. My story. I'm not trying to push my problems on to you. I'm just letting you get to know me. I feel like you care about that. Who knows? Maybe you really don't care. You just act like you care. These guys don't care." I lay on my back. I waited for him to speak. Nothing.
"Its ok. I wouldn't trust me either if I was in your position. Especially when your in a group like this."
"That's the thing. I do trust you. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing." I look back at him as he smirks. I smile slightly. I take a bite out of my granola bar as Daryl was already finished.
"I lost my brother, Merle. Military type guy. Got kicked out and had a mouth. He turned. I took care of it. Before this group found me I was with this girl. Her name was Beth. Not like together but to survive. We were separated from our group and found a place to stay. Walkers over ran it. A black car with a white cross on the back windshield took her. I chased it down. I lost it and that's when you all found me." Daryl says.
"I'm sorry for your lost." I say lightly as I finished my granola bar.
"I'm sorry for yours." Our eyes met for a few seconds until someone shot an arrow into Lens head. I close my eyes opening them back up as Daryl was a bit closer to me. Only three or four inches away.
"Get some sleep. I'll watch over you." I hear Daryl's voice.
"Thank you, night Daryl." I shut my eyes. I could feel a hand brush the hair out of my eyes. I knew he would stay true to his word.
