You walk down the corridor with Remus and Sirius.
"Is she mad at me?" Sirius asks Remus about you.
"How should I know? Can you not ask her yourself?"
"I'm not angry." You lie.
"She's not angry." Remus informs him.
"Shut up."

Later, you're walking around the grounds with Remus and James. "Aw, lookie there. Padfoot's got himself a girl." James says.
"He's always got himself a girl." You roll your eyes, trying to pretend to yourself that you aren't jealous.

You sit in Potions a few days later, Lily as your partner. Sirius comes up. "Hey, Evans. Mind if we switch partners for a bit?"
"Depends. Who's your partner?"
"James--"
"No. She's mine, then. Sod off." Lily turns back to her book.
He whispers something in her ear and she gets up with a sigh, going to sit beside James. Sirius claims her seat. "Hey, Y/L/N."
"Hey." You say.
"So, I have a question--"
"Can you ask later? We're supposed to work."
"But--"
"Mr. Black, may I ask just what you're doing?" Professor Slughorn says.
"Working, Professor."
"That's what I thought."
After class, Sirius pulls you aside. "I was wondering if maybe you'd want to go out sometime?"
"Go out?" You ask.
"Yes. Like, you know. A date?"
"Just why in the bloody hell would I want to date you, Sirius?" You ask bluntly.
He blinks, taken aback. "I'm sorry. I don't understand."
"I've seen the trail of broken hearts you've left. I've stayed up all night consoling the girls whose hearts you broke. I've watched you move from one girl to another over a period of days. Why would I want to be one of them?"
He says nothing for a moment. You're sure you've offended him, but that's what you had wanted to do at the time: Now you felt bad, though. "Yes, I see where you're coming from." He nods. "I understand. Okay. Well, I'll see you around." His lips twitch in an attempted smile and he turns, walking away.

"What did you do to my Padfoot?" James demands as he marches up to you.
"Me?" You ask, looking up from your book as others in the library shush him.
"Yes, you. What did you do to him?"
"Nothing. Why?"
"Because he's messed up. What did you do?"
"I simply refused his request for me to date him."
"And you screwed him up. Come fix him."
"Me? No."
"Yes. It's your fault. Come fix him."
"He'll be fine."
"Well, he's not now. Come fix him."
"There's nothing for me to do, Potter."
"What did you say to him?"
"Facts. May I study, now?"
"You know the only reason he does the shit he does it because he's too scared to ask you?"
"Bullshit, James."
"No. I'm not dealing with him. You're coming to fix him."
"I'm not going to date him, James."
"Do you really think I would put you in a situation where you'd get hurt, Y/N? Do you honestly think I'd let that happen?"
You consider. "No, I suppose not."
"Good, so you'll date him?"
"No, James. I'm not getting involved with him."

"Where's Sirius?" You ask at breakfast the next morning.
"Bed." Remus says.
"Beauty sleep." Peter adds with a laugh.
"Gooooooo." James whines.
"It isn't me fault he's being petty, James!"
Sirius doesn't come out until Defense Against the Dark Arts.
"Hey." You say tentatively.
"Hey." He says.
"You okay?"
"Never better. Why?"
"Your hair isn't as silky smooth as usual."
He gives a little smile. "Sorry. I'll do better tomorrow."
James gives you a look from across the room, so you shoot him a glare and sit beside Sirius. "Sirius Black doesn't skip breakfast. What's wrong?"
"Nothing." He shrugs.
You say nothing.
"Do you really think that lowly of me?" He asks finally.
"No, Sirius. I don't think lowly of you at all. I think very highly of you."
"Just not highly enough, huh?" He gives a little grin.
"No, it's not that at all. I just think it would be best if we didn't do anything to jeopardize our friendship."
"I don't want to jeopardize it. C'mon, just give me a chance, Y/N."
"Fine." You agree. "One date, that's all."

You go on your date, and he does everything right. He pulls out your chair for you, opens doors...
"You look beautiful, by the way." He says as you return to the castle.
"I look like I always do."
"I know." He smiles.
He walks you over to the girls' dormitories. "I'd take you up to your room, but you know." He smiles.
"Yeah. Thank you, Sirius. I genuinely had a nice night."
"Really?"
"Yep."
"Good." He smiles and kisses your cheek. "Well, see you--"
"Are you okay?" You interrupt.
"Yes. Why?"
"You haven't been acting like Sirius Black."
"Who've I been acting like, then?"
"Remus."
He laughs. "Remus gets the girls, so I figured I'd give it a go." He jokes.
"I wouldn't object if you were to actually kiss me." You inform him.
"Is this a trick?" He asks, coming closer anyways.
"No."
"So you do wanna date me!"
"Don't tell James. Then he'll get to say he told me so."
"We're telling James." He grins and kisses you. "Right now." He adds, and pulls you up the stairs to his dormitory.
"Prongsssss! Moooony! Wormtaiiiil!" Sirius hollers as he bursts through the door.
The three sit up in their beds, lights turning on. "What the hell, Padfoot?" They chorus.
"Do you want to know what Y/L/N here just said?"
"No. We want to sleep." Remus said.
"She said she'd date me." Sirius continues.
"Good for you."
"Hey, that's good, mate. But you'd best watch yourself. I don't want to have to kill you." James says.
"I'm going to bed." You say. "Goodnight, guys."
"Wait!" Sirius says dramatically.
"What?" You turn around.
He kisses you again. "Goodnight." He smiles sweetly.
You can't help but smile back. "Goodnight, Sirius."
