"I don't understand why you can't just calm down!" Your mother screams. "There's absolutely nothing going on to make you feel this way! You've known these people your whole life, Y/N! What's the big deal now?"
You know she loves you, and you know that she only wants what's best for you, but you can't deal with her right now.
"Leave me alone." You choke out between gasps and sobs.
She stands in your doorway, arms crossed.
"Call Tony." You beg. "Please call Tony."
"Y/N, honey. This is crazy! There is no reason--"
"I want Tony! Please just fucking call Tony!" You scream, your chest constricting more.
Her jaw drops, but she gets out her phone and walks away, leaving you to suffer alone.
You want somebody to help. You try to scream, but it comes out as a quiet, choked gasp.
"What's wrong with you?" Your mother asks, coming back in and sitting in front of you--too close, but much, much too far. "We have to go."
You don't answer--you can't. She gets angry again and leaves.
What feels like hours later, but was probably only minutes, she returns with Tony.
You can barely breathe, and you're pretty sure you're going to die any minute, but the look of pure terror on his face is so unmasked that even you can read it.
Within seconds, he's right beside you, wrapping his arms around you and holding you tightly--much too close, but this time it's okay. He holds you while you gasp in air. "It's okay." He whispers fiercely. "Everything's okay, Y/N. I swear. I love you, no matter what. It's okay. You're gonna be fine, baby. I'm here. Everything's okay. " He promises.
It feels like forever, but your anxiety finally melts away, leaving you crying as the aftereffects of the panic attack and as a result of Tony's words.
"I'm here, baby. You're safe. It'll be okay. We'll get through this together."
You have your face in Tony's shirt, but you know your mother's watching, awed. You ignore it and continue clinging onto him. "I don't know what's wrong with me. Why am I like this?" You sob.
"It isn't your fault, Y/N. You're gonna be okay. Take deep breaths. I've got you."
"I'm sorry." You start crying again, just as you were calming down. "I'm sorry." You repeat, looking up at your mother. "I'm sorry, Momma. I don't mean to--Where'd she go?" You look at Tony.
"She said you two were supposed to go to something. I think she went there."
You start sobbing again. She didn't even care enough to stay?
"She's mad at me." You sob to Tony.
"You're an adult. You can make your own decisions. She isn't mad; she just doesn't understand. It'll be okay. It isn't your fault, baby."
"But she thinks it is."
"But you know it isn't. I know it isn't. Do you wanna have dinner at my place tonight?" He offers.
You want to tell him that you don't ever want to have dinner again; you just want to die. But you don't want to be alone, and he's the only one you're willing to be around right now. "Yeah, sure. I love you."
"I love you too." He kisses your forehead. "I'm here for you, okay?"
"Thank you, Tony. I know."
