You sit in a car with Fury. He's looking at you with his one good eye.
"I told you, Nick. I'm okay."
"Are you sure, Y/N? You don't have to do this."
"I'm perfectly well enough to talk to people, Fury."
"I'm not so sure. Besides, this isn't normal 'people.' Captain Rogers has been, well, frozen, for the past seventy years. He might be hard to handle."
"I can fight too."
"I can get Natasha to do it, Y/L/N."
"Natasha isn't exactly good with people. I'm a psychologist, Nick--"
"A psychologist who hasn't left her house in a week."
"I talked to Tony Stark. He came by to see me. I'm fine."
"Tony Stark isn't exactly good with people either."
"He tells them what they want to hear. It's surprisingly beneficial."
"That it is." He smiles.
The two of you sit in silence.
The car jerks into action, and you throw your arm in front of Fury, out of habit. He laughs. "You should have kids, Agent Y/L/N. You'd be a good mother."
"No. No I wouldn't. I can't keep myself fed and watered, much less children."
The car lurches to a halt, and you throw your arm out in front of him again. "You and I both know about how you read books to those children every Wednesday morning." Fury smiles at you.
You stare at him for a moment before getting out of the car. "Captain Rogers!" You call.
He turns around to face you, gasping in air.
You make a gesture, and the people surrounding you with guns ready lower their weapons. You walk towards Captain America. "Good morning, Captain." You say quietly, extending your hand. "I'm Agent Y/F/N   Y/L/N with SHIELD. It's a pleasure to meet you."
He slowly reached out to take your hand. "What... I mean..." He looks around at the towering buildings, chest heaving. "When....?"
"This is the twenty-first century, Captain."
He looks crestfallen.
"What is it?"
"I missed my date."
"I'm sorry." You say honestly. "Captain--"
"Steve. Call me Steve."
"Yes sir." You say. "If you'll come with me, we can explain the circumstances."
"Come where?"
"To SHIELD headquarters."
He nods. "And I'm sorry, but what did you say your name was again?"
"Y/F/N." You smile gently. "It's an honor to meet you, Captain--Steve."

"Would you like to meet Howard Stark's son, Steve?" You ask one day.
"Howard... He had a son?"
"Yes sir. His name's Tony."
"You're friends?"
"Yes sir. We grew up together." You say, not mentioning all the stories the two of you had heard about him.
"Yes ma'am, I'd like to meet him."

"You're Captain America." Tony says when he opens the door. "Did you just bring Captain America to my house, Y/N?" He asks.
"Yes." You agree. "I have. Steve, this is Tony. Tony, Steve."
"Steve?" Tony asks.
Steve extends his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Tony. Your father... he was an amazing man."
"Yeah, I'm sure he was. He adored you."
"Don't be bitter, Stark." You sigh.

"I was wondering if maybe you wanted to show me around?" Steve asks one day as he comes into your office.
"I'd love to." You smile. "Just let me wrap this up."
"Sure." He takes a seat.
A few minutes later, the two of you are walking out of the building.
"So, what all have I missed?" He asks.
"The Beatles." You say.
"Beetles?"
"The Beatles--B-E-A-T-L-E-S. They're a band from the sixties. Nirvana's an eighties band that's really good." You give an amused smile as you see he's writing down what you say. "Guns N Roses. Oh, and Bon Jovi." You say. You try to think of historical things, but more bands flood your mind. "There's the internet too." You crack a smile, and he laughs.

"Can I walk you home?" He asks when your day is over.
"And they say chivalry's dead." You smile. "Yes, you may."
He smiles and holds out his arm.
"Why, thank you." You smile and link yours in.
He walks you to your door.
"Do you wanna come in?"
"Probably shouldn't."
"You sure? You've also missed the advent of Starbucks. I'll make some coffee. Come on." You smile.
"Well, how can I refuse?"
He comes in and watches you make the coffee. "Can you teach me how to work one of those things sometime?" He asks.
"Of course." You smile.
You sit beside him after a while with coffee.
"Oh, God. This is amazing." He says.
"Right?" You smile.
As he's leaving about an hour later, he pauses in the door. "What would you say if I asked if I could kiss you?"
"I'd say yes." You say, and he kisses you.
"Come back inside." You say.
He comes in and shuts the door behind him.
As he's leaving a little bit later, he turns around again. "Could you do me a huge favor?"
"Of course."
"Could you mention this to Natasha?"
"Um... Sure?"
"She's been giving me a hard time about my social skills." He smiled.
"Yeah, I'll gladly tell her." You laugh.
"Do you maybe want to go to dinner tomorrow night?" He presses.
"I'd love to."
"Good." He kisses your cheek and walks away.
