You stare down at the letter you're about to send, unsure if you should or not.
"Who's Remus?" Your Muggle cousin asks.
"High school boyfriend." You say casually.
"You're writing him a letter?"
"Yes."
"Does he not have a telephone?"
"Doubtful."
"Do you want me to drop it in the post on my way out?"
"No, that's okay."
As soon as she leaves, you send the letter with your owl.
You don't know where he is, but he's the only one left. James and Lily are dead, Peter's dead, and Sirius is in Azkaban.
Peter deserved his fate, but Sirius didn't. You and Remus both knew that, but who would take the word of you, one deemed crazy, and Remus, a werewolf, over the word of everybody else?
You're alone. Your cousin stops by every day, probably solely because her mother wants her to, but she doesn't understand any of it. She didn't know about anything anyways. You're tired of the isolation, so you gave in and wrote Remus.
You're sitting, looking at a picture from your seventh year. Everything was hell then, but you couldn't tell from the picture. Peter was smiling up at Sirius, who was smiling and had one hand on his shoulder and the other arm thrown around James' shoulders. James was shoving Sirius and laughing. Lily and I were laughing at something Remus had said, and he had his arms around me from behind.
Your owl flies through the open window and alights on the table before you. You take the letter from his leg.
Y/N,
I've missed you too. I'd be more than happy to meet. Tomorrow? Where?
Love,
Remus
You smile, relatively happy for the first time in a while. You scribble back your address and send your pet off again.
The knock on your door signifies your cousin's second arrival of the day. She's presumably got dinner.
You open it with a genuine smile. "Hey." You say.
"Hi." She says, shocked by your levity. "You okay?"
"Yep."
"Mum sent this." She holds out a container of food. "She says to tell you to come to dinner tomorrow."
"I can't."
"You can't?"
"I have plans."
"Actual plans?" She narrows her eyes.
"Yeah."
"With?"
"Remus."
"You had to really have loved him to still be into him." She comments.
"Yeah, well." You shrug. You can't tell her about the war that ravished your lives.
"Well, let me know how it goes. I'll convey to Mum." She smiles and turns away.
That was easier than you'd expected.
You get home from work--you have a Muggle job. It was quite boring, but, as previously stated, they deem you crazy in the Wizarding World--and pick up a book to await Remus' arrival.
The doorbell rings and you go to open it, now more nervous then excited. You open it to see Remus.
"Y/N." He says.
"Hey, Moony." You smile.
He seems to consider for a moment before he kisses you. You reciprocate, and when he pulls back, you start crying. He wraps his arms around you in the doorway, holding you like he used to. He tilts your head up and kisses you. "I've been wanting to write you forever." He informs you.
"So why didn't you?" You ask.
"I don't deserve to be happy." He says quietly. He has even more scars now than he'd had in school.
"Yes you do." You kiss him again, bringing your hand up to his cheek.
"I don't. But I'll gladly accept it."
