You walk into the common room in your fifth year. "Call me 'Prancer' one more time and see what happens." James points his wand at Sirius.
"Hey, Prancer." You say as you walk over, just to see what he does.
He jerks to look at you, narrowing his eyes. "You're asking for it, Y/L/N."
You smile sweetly, ruffling his hair as you walk past.
"Wait!" He yells, and you turn around. "I love you." He grins.
"You too." You smile.

You sit beside a hospital bed in your sixth year. James lays in it, eyes closed. Sirius stands behind you, his hands on your shoulders. Peter sits across the bed, and Remus leans against the wall, a big scratch down his cheek. Madame Pomfrey had tried to get him to let her take care of it, but he wouldn't let her, so she'd just left the stuff on a table.
"I'm sorry." Remus tells you again.
You stand up. You very well could have just punched him, from the look on his face. Sirius puts his hand on your arm, silently daring you to say anything. You pull away from him, go over to Remus, and hug him. "He'll be okay, sweetie. Can I look at your face?"
He turns his head away, mumbling negations.
"I'll take that as a yes." You say, taking a cotton ball off the table and putting it in the alcohol.
"Thank you." He says quietly when you're done.
"Of course." You squeeze his hand before pulling him into another hug. "I love--"
"Paws off the girl, Moony." James says. "Merlin! A guy's out for a few hours and everyone's all up on his girlfriend."
"James!" They chorus.
"Hey, Prancer." You smile.
He grins. He'd be grinning right then if his arm was falling off.

"Is that Cresswell speaking to Y/N?" James asks in your seventh year.
"It is. Glad you don't need your prescription changed again, Jamesie." Sirius reaches up and wiggles the glasses on James' face.
"Why is he talking to her?" James continues.
"Watch out, mate. You're turning green." Remus says.
"He just touched her arm." James sits up straight on the couch. "Why is he talking to her?"
"Well, she's hot." Sirius says casually.
"Call my girlfriend 'hot' one more time and see what happens." James spouts off the same empty threat he does every time Sirius says something like that. He doesn't take his eyes off of you and the guy talking to you.
"Calm down, Prongs. If she's put up with you this long, she'll do it a bit longer, I'm sure." Peter says.
"I'm gonna go interrupt."
"Don't do that." The other three Marauders say, but James pays them no heed.
He walks over to you, wrapping his arms around you from behind. "Hey, baby." He kisses your cheek.
"Hey. Please let me go; I'm trying to have a conversation." You say.
He lets you go, but continues standing beside you. "Hey, Dirk." He smiles innocently.
"Hey, James." Dirk says.
"Anyways." You clear your throat uncomfortably. "Saturday at seven works just fine for me--"
"Saturday at seven? What the hell's Saturday at seven?" James demands.
Remus stands up, ready to come talk sense if need be.
"We're studying--" You begin.
"You're studying? For what?"
"History of Magic." Dirk says. "You're welcome to join us."
"I'd be delighted. Thank you. If you'll excuse us, I need a word with her." James pulls you away.
"The hell, James?" You snap.
"See you Saturday at seven." He slips away.

A year after, James comes home to find you scrubbing vigorously at the floor. "Whoa." He says. "What're you doing, baby?"
"Cleaning. What does it look like?" You snap.
He glances around the spotless flat. "What're you cleaning?"
"The floor. What does it look like?"
"The floor looks clean, love. Why don't you take a break?" He comes over, picking you up and putting you on your feet.
"Because I'm cleaning." You say, your heart racing. Your eyes burn. You're scared.
"Take a break. We can watch one of those Muggle shows you're so fond of. Sound good?"
"I'm cleaning." Your voice cracks.
"You heard about the Longbottoms." He says.
You nod, blinking hard. You don't want to cry.
He wraps his arms around you.
"I'm scared, James." You whisper into his shirt.
"We all are, baby." He kisses the top of your head. "I won't let anything happen to you. I promise."
That makes you start to actually cry. "I don't want anything to happen to you. Or Remus, or Sirius or Peter."
"Nothing'll happen. I won't let it."
"Don't be stupid, James. Be safe." You pull back and look up at him.
"Safe's my middle name." He kisses you.
"I thought your middle name was Prancer."
He laughs. "Let's open some windows in here. It smells like bleach."
A few minutes later, the two of you are curled up on the couch watching Full House.
The doorbell rings. "It's uuuuuussssss!" The voice of Sirius Black singsongs.
You smile, and James laughs. "It's open!"
Remus, Sirius and Peter file in, sitting in their respective places.
"Told you I smelled Full House." Sirius grins.
"Or maybe you're just stalking them." Peter suggests.
"However probable that sounds... no."
You don't say what everybody's thinking: That everyone was scared and wanted to be with family.
"I love you guys." You say.
"Love you too." They chorus.
James kisses your head, tightening his arm around you. "I love you." He whispers in your ear.
