Raegan's POV
I sat in the hospital quietly as my legs shook. I looked down at my shirt, covered in Henry's blood once again. My eyes were beginning to water and I stood up to catch my breath. This is really happening to me. All of this happened right before my eyes and I didn't know anything about it. I was too busy worrying about myself and my little brother was in a world of trouble. My heart was heavy. I honestly felt like I was going to drop on the floor at any moment. I could barely hold my head up anymore.
"Raegan Shaw?" The doctor spoke from across the room. I stood to my feet again as best I could and walked to him. My heart was pounding in my chest as my feet slid across the floor. The walls were closing in around me and everything began to blur. I wiped my eyes to clear my vision before I stepped at the doctor.
"Hello ma'am, will you come with me?" He spoke quietly as I trudged behind him. Picking up my feet seemed like a difficult task now. I sat down in the quiet room he took me in and he sat down in front of me. He took his hands and grabbed mine and I instantly knew the words he was about to say.
"We did everything we could, Raegan. However, Henry did not make it. When he shot himself, he lost a portion of his brain that we were unable to recover." My hands were shaking as he gripped them tightly. I tried to pull my hands away from him but he held onto me tightly. My chest was heavy, I knew I was next to die. I wiped my eyes with my shoulder and started panting. His thumbs caressed my hands and I couldn't take it. I screamed at the top of my lungs and collapsed out of the chair. The doctor grabbed me as I sobbed on the floor. He asked me who to call to come get me and I could only think of one person...
Chris's POV
I was heading over to the house I used to live in with my parents. It was a little warm out today and I walked across the concrete before my phone rang. I looked at the screen and let out a sigh.
I answered and instantly heard screaming in the background. My face frowned up, "Raegan? What's wrong? Who is screaming like that?" I asked quickly before a man's voice came across the line.
"Hi, Chris, I need you to come get Raegan from the hospital. She is unable to drive and she cannot get herself home. How soon can you get here?"
"Um..About ten minutes or so what happened?" My voice was slightly shaky because I was beginning to breathe hard.
"I am not allowed to tell you that but I would like it if you came to get her please. Thank you."
"I'm on my way. Thanks" I hung up the phone and turned around and headed towards the hospital.
Ten minutes later...
I arrived at the hospital and took my hat off. I walked inside and stood at the Help Desk and tapped my fingers.
"How may I help you, sir?" The kind nurse spoke across the counter.
"I'm here to pick up Raegan Shaw. A doctor just called me to come get her..." I mumbled.
She got up and went to a room. When she came back out, she was pushing Raegan out in a wheelchair. She looked lifeless.
"Is she okay?" I asked the nurse and she simply looked at me before sitting back at her desk.
I frowned and took Raegan's keys off the counter and pushed her out to her car. I opened the passenger side door and waited for her to get in the car but she didn't move. I tapped her shoulder slightly "Hey..get in.." I murmured to her quietly. She didn't budge so I picked her up and placed her into the car gently. After taking the wheelchair back into the hospital, I got into the car and started it up. I drove quietly before we got stuck in traffic. I looked over at her and noticed how she was covered in blood. I looked back at the road and tapped my fingers on the wheel before glancing back at her again. I noticed Henry's chain wrapped around her hand with the pendent tucked in her palm.
"Raegan.." I whispered, "What happened?"
She didn't speak but tears began to fall down her face. Not once, did she look at me. Her eyes were glued to the car in front of us. I looked down at my lap and sighed a little. I reached over and wiped her eyes gently but it didn't help. She continued to cry. After we were able to get out of traffic, I drove into her neighborhood. I noticed her body tensed up as I pulled into the driveway. I parked the car and turned it off as silence fell over the car.
"Are you going inside?" I asked quietly. Her bottom lip trembled and she stared at her feet. I nodded a little before responding.
"Okay, I will take you back with me. I'm going to go inside and get you some clothes..." I got out of the car and walked into the house. I walked to the coat closet and opened the door. It creaked slightly causing me to jump. I looked down and grabbed the purple duffle bag she brought with her to the writing convention we went to long ago. I looked through the bag to make sure it was completely empty as I walked up the stairs. My foot hit the top floor and a small splash noise rang in my ears. I looked up from the bag and froze. The floor was usually a light brown from the carpet but now it was a deep red. I lifted my foot and turned my head towards the bedroom I used to sleep in. I tapped the door and it creaked as it swung open. I peeped my head in and the room looked normal. I took my shoes off and stepped over the red stained carpet and walked into the room.
Where was the blood coming from? I looked around and out of the window and everything looked fine. I shrugged and turned back towards the door and my eyes fell upon the wall, drenched in blood. I stood there, with my mouth hanging open, and I tapped the door again to shut it. There were flesh fragments and small patches of hair trailing across the wall. I looked down and saw a gun lying on the floor. I pulled my scarf up over my face before opening the bedroom door again. I walked into Raegan's room and packed the duffle bag full of clothes and shoes. I grabbed her make-up bags and stuffed them into the duffle bag, as well. After putting my shoes back on, I ran down the stairs and locked the door behind me. I packed her bags into her car and got back into the car. I sighed and looked at her.
"Were you in there when he did it?" I asked slowly. She simply nodded her head and I rubbed my face. Her breathing began to pick up again and her hand clenched the gold chain she held. I reached over and held her hand gently and put my free arm around her. She fell into my chest and sobbed. I rubbed her hair and kissed her forehead gently.
"I've got you..." I whispered into her hair as I gently caressed her back in comfort. She held onto me as if she had to in order to stay alive.
