Chapter 18

Beyoncé woke up the next morning and looked around her condo. She had the entire weekend to herself, and truly didn't know what to do with herself. Of course, she could go work, but that would defeat the purpose of it being a weekend. She also just wanted to know what life was like just lounging around. It was something that she rarely had the opportunity to do, especially lately. Lately, Beyoncé had been working her ass off, and it was paying off generously in her bank account.

She was loving the extra money that she had, but didn't know what to spend it on. The obvious was paying bills, but Beyoncé felt like she deserved something. She needed a new big purchase, but she had no idea of what it should be. She sat back on her headboard for a moment to get used to the silence. Not having her baby girl home wasn't something that she was used to.

On a Saturday morning, she was used to Gabrielle running in her room and jumping on the bed to wake her up. As she jumped, Gabrielle would usually recite what she wanted for breakfast until Beyoncé actually got up to make it for her. Today, there was nothing but silence.

Bey reached over and grabbed her cellphone to see that she had a few missed calls and voicemails from Shawn. Beyoncé frowned and listened to all of the voicemails. There was a panicked tone in his voice about something. It was important, and he continued stressing it. Immediately, she went ahead and called him back to see what he wanted, but received no answer.

Figuring that he was busy or away from his phone, Beyoncé called the office.

"Thank you for calling SC Magazine, this is Meagan speaking."

"Meagan, hi. It's Beyoncé."

"Ms. Knowles," she said in an alert tone. "Uh, have you talked with Mr. Carter?"

"No," Beyoncé replied. "He didn't answer his phone when I called back. Is everything okay?"

Meagan released a deep breath. "No. Nothing is okay right now. Have you looked at the news?"

Beyoncé shook her head and went to grab her remote control. "No, but I'm turning it on right now." She turned the television to the first news cast, figuring that's what she meant. CNN was usually good about keeping up with celebrity news, especially when it was about Shawn. It was like his name appeared in some way every six minutes. Beyoncé watched as video of the two of them kissing while the news anchor continued to comment about it played.

"Oh shit," she cursed without thinking much about it. "Please have him call me back."

Beyoncé hung up the phone and immediately dialed her sister's number. She didn't know why she was so scared, but she could feel something terrible happening. She felt like it was the end before she and Shawn could officially start.

"Beyoncé?" Giselle answered with panic. "What is going on?"

"I don't know! I just found out! Are you reporting about this?"

Giselle sighed. "Yes, you know I have to. Please, Bey guide me with this. What do you want me to say?"

"Don't say we're dating. Please, don't. Not officially anyway."

"Anything I say, they'll believe me because I'm your sister. We'll talk later, okay? Gabby's at Mom's by the way."

Beyoncé breathed out. She would have to check up on her daughter later. It wasn't a selfish thing, but right now, Bey's mind was going places. She quickly showered and got dressed. She didn't know what was happening or going to happen, but she needed to see the person that she was in the mess with.

Bey sped all the way to the office, and immediately went up the floor. She watched as several people walked around on their phones and with pens and pads in their hands, writing things down. No one noticed her, because they were too busy cleaning up the mess. Beyoncé walked past everyone slowly and slid into Shawn's office.
