Chapter 9
Giselle held the phone in her hand as she hung up from leaving another message on Bey's voicemail. She knew that she'd eventually reach the limit, because the phone typically went straight to voicemail. She looked down to the ground, ignoring her surroundings. It had been on her mind since the very moment that it happened, and it seemed like the moment replayed over and over again. That could be because many stations and networks continued to replay the segment.
Giselle was in the middle of attacking one of her guests after he made the comment that maybe people wouldn't be so harsh on Alexa if she wasn't a Victoria's Secret model. He stated that she gave every man the okay to look at her in a sexual way. That ticked her off enough for her to go into a slight reading session of the man and any other person that thinks like that. She constantly thought back to her sister, but wasn't prepared to hear the words in her ear that her very own sister had a story.
"What?" She asked, aloud, confusing many people on the set. Giselle quickly recovered and switched gears. She broke the news first before anyone else and read the blog post as it was posted. Tears formed in her eyes the more that she read, and for the first time – she cried on live television.
Producers refused to cut to commercial, fearing that they'd lose the moment. Therefore, they were able to capture Giselle's true feelings and thoughts right as it happened. She told the world how it was true that she and her family had berated Beyoncé for the way that her daughter was conceived, not knowing that she was raped before. Beyoncé allowed them to assume what they wanted, in fear of the many questions they'd have about the night.
In the end, Giselle sincerely apologized to her sister, and went right back to defending both Alexa and Beyoncé from the people of the world. She felt like she carried the weight of having to defend her sister, and she hadn't even spoken to her sister.
"She answer?" Katherine asked right before coughing.
Giselle shook her head. "Voicemail again. Are you sure she hasn't called you?"
Katherine side eyed her daughter for a moment. "Don't you think I'd know if my own child had called me, Giselle? Have you been by her house?"
"I go every day. It's like she doesn't even live there anymore. I've staked out at Gabby's school."
"And? Is she not going to school?"
Giselle slid her phone into her back pocket, thinking about it for a moment. "She goes to school, but Beyoncé doesn't drop her off."
"Who drops her off? That Tanya girl?"
Giselle shook her head. "She comes in a black SUV. She leaves in a black SUV. Her teachers won't tell me anything and I can't even pull Gabrielle out the class to talk to her."
Katherine sighed and removed the lid from the chicken soup that she was making. Her mind had been racing since the news broke, and she blamed herself as a mother. "I want you to do more," Katherine told Giselle.
"Ma, I'm doing everything I can. I reach out several times a day. The ball's in her court now."
"I understand that, but you're not doing enough for me. What about that man you said she was with weeks ago? What about him?"
"Shawn Carter? She's managed by him, therefore I'm sure they're in on this together."
Katherine shook her head. She couldn't go another day without speaking to Beyoncé. It worried her that she dropped a bomb and practically disappeared into thin air. "Listen to me and listen to me well, when you do find your sister, the two of you need to have the longest conversation ever."
