Chapter 31
She looked into the mirror and tried to find a smile. She tried to find the happiness that she'd boasted about numerous times in the past. She talked and talked about how much she loved the man that she was with. She talked about so much that she couldn't believe she had to make the phone call she'd made once the boat hit the dock.
"Beyoncé?" The woman asked in a nervous tone as she entered into her office. According to her schedule, she wasn't supposed to see Beyoncé for another week.
Beyoncé turned away from the mirror and showcased her makeup-less look. It was the same look that she always wore when she came to therapy. It was her way of stripping down to make sure she was as honest as possible about her feelings.
"Ms. Brenda," she replied warmly with a smile.
Brenda sat down in her chair and watched Beyoncé with a smile. She was trying to figure out what had gone wrong. What was her reasoning for being here so soon? "I wasn't expecting your emergency call, especially after the little date you described to me two days ago."
Beyoncé looked around before staring out of the window. She folded her arms across her chest as she thought about the things that had transpired between Shawn and her.
"You may sit wherever you want, Beyoncé. I can tell you have a lot on your mind."
Beyoncé sighed and looked down to the ground. She took a seat on the ground. Brenda stood up from the chair behind her desk and sat across from her. "You know, the last time you chose the floor was your first time in here. You sat in that chair for almost an hour before breaking down in tears. I watched you slide down the couch to the floor and you finally told me everything that was bothering you. You told me everything about him."
Beyoncé shook her head. "Well, seems like nothing has changed."
"I beg to differ," Brenda rebutted quickly. "You've come in my office happy every single time since getting back together. Even when he revealed a secret to you, you were still happy."
Beyoncé smirked. "Because I was a fool in love."
Brenda smiled a bit. "A fool? Or just a woman, Bey. You're a woman that's in love with a man."
"I've told you numerous times about me and love. I've told you how love makes you turn into a fool. You believe everything they say and then you end up with egg on your face because while you were loving them, they were out doing stupid shit."
The two women shared a look as Brenda allowed the words to sink in. She couldn't fathom the things that Shawn Carter had done to make Beyoncé change her decision, but knowing Beyoncé, she couldn't help but reserve her judgement.
"Explain everything to me. I want to know how everything went."
"Everything was going perfect."
"How?"
Beyoncé breathed out. "We'd arranged the nanny to stay at his house. He had no idea we'd be gone for more than the night, but everyone else knew. We get to the yacht and everything's great. He meets the chef and he gives a lot of advice about relationships and marriage. I think Shawn really liked him."
Brenda nodded her head. "The chef that gave you the cooking lesson, correct?"
"Correct. We ate what we cooked and the chef brought us dessert. We went to dance to slow jams, and I told him that I would marry him."
Brenda smiled brightly. "Were you telling the truth or just saying something to make him happy?"
"I was telling the truth. I wanted to marry Shawn."
