Chapter 4
The gymnasium was filled with different little booths that the kids made with their teachers. At the pink and black booth with zebra printing on it, stood Gabrielle. She looked around as all the other parents helped their kids set up their booths with the baked treats that they had made or bought from the store. Her pout soon became more and more apparent once she realized that she hadn't spoken to her mother all day. She dropped her head to the ground in disappointment, wanting to cry from embarrassment and neglect.
"I just know you're not about to cry," Beyoncé said as she held the container of treats on her hip. She smiled down to her daughter. She knew that she was late, but she found herself wrapped in a conversation with Gabrielle's teacher. Both women had lost track of time.
Gabrielle looked up and smiled at the sight of her mother standing before her. She ran around the booth to wrap her arms around her mother's waist. Bey happily squatted down to hug her youngster. "Alright, let's get set up so we can sell this stuff, alright?"
"Alright!" The two girls quickly spread their goodies out on the table before going around to take a seat in the two chairs posted behind the booth.
"So, how was your day?" Bey asked her as they waited for people to come up.
Gabby shrugged her shoulders. "We not do much."
"You didn't do much," Beyoncé corrected her daughter.
"Yeah."
"But you did something. So, what was it?"
Gabrielle began explaining to her mother about the crafts they did and what she learned today. She also told her about the little fun cooking thing they did with rice crispy treats.
"Really? Did you have fun at Aunt Giselle's house?"
"Yes!" Gabby cheesed hard. "Ethan tried to bite me, Mommy."
"Did you bite him back?" Bey asked half jokingly. When Gabby got to her biting stage, she actually did bite Bey, who bit her back. Bey couldn't recall a time after that Gabrielle tried biting again. Once she felt the pain of being bit, Gabrielle didn't bother to bite anyone else anymore.
She giggled. "No, Mommy, that's not nice."
"Well, it's not nice for him to bite you, either."
"He's a baby," Gabby replied softly in defense mode. She loved her little cousin to death.
Beyoncé chuckled. "Fine. But why did you tell your aunt that I didn't feed you?"
Gabby looked at her mother with wide eyes. "I didn't say that!"
"Gabby, are you lying?" Beyoncé didn't care where she was, she'd scold Gabby at the drop of the hat if she needed to.
"No ma'am," Gabby defended. "All I said was I was hungry.
The explanation sounded more clear to Beyoncé. She could just see her sister overreacting because the child said that she was hungry. Gabby was one of those kids that could eat you out of house and home. If you said you'd make her food, she'd make herself readily hungry. Gabrielle had been that way since she was about three years old. She was greedy as ever.
Beyoncé decided not to speak more on the topic. She'd rather not make it seem like it was a big deal to Gabby, because she wasn't as aware of the beef between the twins. Instead, she talked with everyone that came up to their bake sale to buy something. Many people inquired about them, including the recipe. Bey made sure to keep quiet about some of the ingredients, because it was a family recipe.
The girls wrapped their things up and decided to take the leftovers home, since Gabrielle enjoyed them. "What do you want for dinner?" Bey asked whilst she tried to watch the road on their way home.
