Chapter 29
Shawn paced his office with his phone in his hand. He had called Beyoncé's number about five times now. He was beginning to worry. His mind could only think about her run in with her sister and how Beyoncé had expressed her displeasure for it. When they left the hospital, she didn't want to go home with him. Instead, she opted to go to her own home and had only sent him a text goodnight.
Shawn turned his back to the door and looked out of the window. He called her once again, hoping that she would answer. When he heard her voicemail again, he let out a deep breath. "Hey, it's Shawn...again. Just...Beyoncé please call me back."
Beyoncé stood behind him and rolled her eyes. She was honestly growing tired of having to check in every little moment with Shawn. Every time she showed a feeling other than happiness, he started to panic. Every time they departed, he panicked. There were many nights when he wouldn't allow her to leave his home at night in fear that she wouldn't return, but Beyoncé had to remind him that she did have a child that needed a mother.
"Your daughter is in the hallway crying her beautiful little eyes out, and you're in here blowing my phone up. Your priorities, Mr. Carter," Beyoncé spoke as she walked further into his office and sat before his desk.
Shawn turned around to face her and smirked a bit. He knew that he was probably getting on her nerves with the constant checking on her, but he had his reasons. "She's been fussing all morning," he said lowly. "I don't know what's wrong with her."
"Why isn't she at home with Nia? This is a place of business, Shawn. No one wants to hear her and poor Meagan can't get her to calm down."
Shawn nodded his head. He knew what was happening on the other side of his door. "Nia had a family emergency, so I had to bring her here. I'm not staying long, but I was hoping.."
"No," she answered quickly. "I just can't stop working to tend to your child."
Shawn dropped his head in defeat. He hated the way that it sounded coming from her mouth, but he understood what she was trying to say. He needed to stop trying to put her off on other people and be brave enough to handle her on his own. Sadly, Shawn just couldn't find himself doing so. "Beyoncé, she cries whenever I pick her up. She screamed this morning while I bathed her."
Beyoncé sympathetically looked at her boyfriend. She knew that he was having a hard time with parenthood, but she wanted him to grasp the concept on his own, just as she did. She wanted people to stop being obligated to help him because they were on payroll. "I understand that, but you have to get used to her, Shawn. You're like a stranger holding her."
"Meagan is too."
"And that's why she's screaming her little head off right now."
"She loves you," he replied quickly, hoping that it would make Beyoncé a bit guilty for not wanting to take her off of his hands.
Beyoncé shot him a look and stood to her feet. She had too many things on her plate to deal with Shawn at the moment. She had a photoshoot scheduled for herself. She also had to make sure that two of her models' shoots went perfect. Shawn stood to his feet, as well, and saw that she was prepared to leave.
"I want to take you out," he blurted out quickly.
Beyoncé stopped in her tracks and turned to face him. She frowned a bit and looked at Shawn for a moment. "What?"
He released a deep breath and shrugged his shoulders. He slid his hands deep into his dress pants and walked slowly toward her. "Last night after I dropped you off, I realized that we never really...dated. We don't go out on dates, and I couldn't help but feel bad."
