Chapter 2

Giselle entered her workplace with a hefty frown upon her face. It was like the night before happened this morning. She couldn't get what her sister had said out of her mind. Even though it was in Beyoncé fashion to constantly nitpick at things, Giselle hated that she'd ruined dinner with her antics. She breezed past all the other workers to finally get to her office. She didn't want to talk to anyone, but she knew that she didn't have much of a choice.

"So...? How'd the dinner go?" Regina asked happily, skating into Giselle's office with a happy smile on her face.

Giselle looked over from her laptop, never removing her frown. Regina's face went from a smile to a straight face. "What happened?"

"My mother's other child was there."

Regina knew exactly how Beyoncé was. She was around when the ultimate change happened between the girls. Every time Beyoncé showed up to the office, it was to rain on Giselle's day. It was as if the woman got off on making her sister miserable, but Regina was also aware enough to see both sides. When Beyoncé got pregnant, Giselle didn't let her have her have a good nine months. Instead, she badgered the nineteen year old about how it would make her look bad.

"What happened?" Regina took a seat and sat across from Giselle.

"Well, as my mother was asking about my day, job, and what not, Beyoncé grew jealous. You know how she gets when I talk about my happy life. So, she starts making things about herself. But, that wasn't even the bad part."

"Then what was?"

"She said our father died."

Regina's mouth flew open. Being friends with Giselle for nearly ten years, Regina knew how much her relationship with her father had changed. When her father left her mother, Giselle took her mother's side, whilst Beyoncé took her father's side. Unlike Giselle, Beyoncé refused to blackball her father.

"Well." Regina shifted uncomfortably in her seat, whilst biting down on her bottom lip. Rarely did they talk about her father in a serious manner, because Giselle simply didn't like talking about him unless she was spewing insults. "How do you feel?"

"I feel like she's lying," Giselle bluntly told her. "My father was a healthy man, he can't be dead."

"Did she say how he died, though?"

Giselle shook her head, but didn't care. "Doesn't matter. She only said it to get a rise out of us and it didn't work. I can't stand that damn girl."

Regina smirked. It was funny to her how the two sisters quickly turned on one another. She remembered there was a time when things were great between them. She would go over their house to have the best of a time, but when their father left, it tore them apart. Giselle was always a mommy's girl and Beyoncé was more of a daddy's girl.

"Then, let's stop talking about her and talk about your new interview."

Giselle cheesed hard at the thought of President Obama coming into her office for an interview. "I'm so excited! You know how long and hard I worked for this?"

"Too long and too hard," Regina commented.

Giselle waved her off. "No such thing. I worked hard for moments and blessings like these. I worked damn hard for everything I deserve."

Regina nodded her head. "And are you happy with everything?"

"Why wouldn't I be? I have an amazing husband, a beautiful son, and a successful career. I defeated all the stereotypes about black women. I'm not on welfare, I'm not a single mother, and I don't work at Walmart or McDonald's."
