Chapter 27
Beyoncé sat in her car for a moment and eyed the crumbled up piece of paper that she'd written the address on. She was in awe of the beautiful home that stood before her. It was something right out of a magazine, and she couldn't help but think that it may have been picked out of a magazine. She turned her car off and stepped out, looking around to see if anyone was outside, but figured that no one would dare be outside on a day like today.
She walked up the steps that led to the front door and rang the doorbell. Her heart was pounding hard, as though it would jump out of her chest and leave her hanging at any second. She'd pondered on this exact moment for a month now, and couldn't believe that she was actually here. Today was the day that she declared that she'd be getting her man back. The question was, did he want her back?
The door swung open and a beautiful woman appeared before her. She was dressed in a white blouse, high waisted jeans, and a peach colored blazer with color matching wedged sandals. Beyonce's eyes immediately narrowed, as she had never seen the woman before in her life and couldn't help but think the worst.
"May I help you?" The question rang through Beyonce's ears as she looked at the woman. She watched as she folded her arms across her chest, shifted her weight to her right foot, and placed an apparent scowl upon her face.
Bey knew what each gesture was for, but she wouldn't allow the woman to take her from the vow that she'd made to Shawn. She would never disrespect anyone that he knew. She wouldn't' disrespect his family, Courtney, or the woman standing before her. "Yes, I'm here to see Mr. Carter."
The woman moved hair from her face and shook her head. "Mr. Carter is not accepting any unexpected visitors right now," she spoke in a nonchalant tone. It was clear that she didn't care for whatever reason Beyoncé had to show up. All she knew was that Beyoncé wasn't getting into the house.
"I can understand that, but I need to speak with him."
The woman laughed a bit. "A lot of people need to speak with him, which is why they make appointments. I'm sorry, but I cannot allow you into his home. He's busy at the moment."
"Have you spoken to him?" Beyoncé asked, not caring for her rehearsed speech. "Have you told him that Bey-"
"I know who you are, and Mr. Carter won't care at the moment. Like I said, he's busy." Her tone was as sharp as a needle. She was daring Beyoncé to go against anything that she said. It was clear to Bey that she held some type of power within the household. Shawn didn't allow too many people to dictate his time.
Beyoncé started to speak, but was halted by Shawn's questioning of which tie he should wear for the event tonight. The woman turned to face his dumbfounded face, and Beyoncé could only smile.
"Bey..." He said softly as he held the black and silver ties in his hands, trying to figure out which one he should wear tonight.
"I think a bow tie would be more appropriate," Beyoncé smoothly answered, not caring that the question wasn't posed for her to answer. It was clear as day that he was asking Nia.
Shawn looked at her for a moment, wondering why she was on his doorstep. He wondered how she even found out where his new home was. He hadn't spoken to her to tell her that he had moved out of his old home. "Nia," he started to say.
The woman, Nia, turned to face Shawn with a smile on her face. On the inside, she was hoping that Shawn wouldn't go against anything that she said. The last thing she wanted to do was give Beyoncé clearance into the house. It would have made her day to have to escort her off of the property. "Yes?"
"Can you go take care of..." Shawn trailed off, not wanting to name whatever needed to be taken care of. The two shared a look. "Ms. Knowles and I need to talk."
