Chapter 28
Giselle looked at her son's new nursery and smiled proudly. She had given birth just two weeks ago and couldn't believe that she was stuck in this predicament. She was the single mother of two little boys, and one of the children had not met his father yet. She was the culprit to blame for that, but she couldn't find the strength to be upset with herself over the decision. In her mind, it was the best decision that she went through her pregnancy without Ryan around her. She gave every reason in the book for him being states away from her.
"Mommy, is Dwylan sleep?" Ethan came into the room and stood on his tip toes near the crib. He tried to peek inside to see what his little brother was doing, but was too short to see anything. He frowned, causing Gis to laugh softly. Since the birth of Dylan, Ethan had been nothing but fond of him. He was being the best big brother that he could for his age. He would try to feed him his bottles of pumped breast milk, and he tried soothing him when he would cry.
"Yes, baby, he is."
Ethan breathed out. "But why, Mommy? I wanted to play!" Ethan held up the new helicopter toy that Milan had purchased for him. It was his way of showing Ethan that just because Dylan was here, didn't mean that he would be neglected. Gis appreciated the gesture, because she had been so consumed with making sure Dylan was okay, that she regretfully neglected Ethan sometimes.
Giselle squatted down before her son, wincing a bit. "He's only a little baby, Ethan. He sleeps a lot, okay?"
"Okay, but why, Mommy?" Ethan whined, not understanding why Dylan would only sleep and not wake up. It seemed like every time Ethan wanted to play with him, he was sound asleep. Most of the time, Dylan would only be up for so many hours.
"Do you want Mommy to play with you while we wait for Dylan to wake up?"
She could see the tears forming in Ethan's eyes. His body lip poked out and began to tremble, causing Gis to pull him close to her. She rubbed his back and rocked him. "Please don't do this, Ethan. We have to let Dylan sleep, just like when Mommy let you sleep when you were that little, okay?"
"Otay." He sniffled to stop his cries. He moved away from his mother and looked at his helicopter. "I wanna play."
Giselle smiled and found herself sitting down on the floor in Dylan's room with Ethan. He made the cutest little helicopter noises as he tried running the helicopter into his mother's face numerous times.
"Do you want to see Daddy?" Giselle posed the question. She had found out some news that would send her back packing to Los Angeles. She wasn't sure if it would be something permanent, but she knew that she had to make a visit to make sure that things were okay.
Ethan stopped playing with his helicopter and looked up to his mother. His eyes lit up brightly and he smiled hard. "Yes! And Gabby!"
"And Gabby?"
"And Bey Bey," Ethan continued. He made a list of all the people that he wanted to see if they were ever to go back to Los Angeles. Even in the nine months that they had been gone, he didn't forget anyone. Gis never let him forget anyone. She continuously showed him every time Beyonce was on his TV. She showed him things about his father, even though they were hard to find.
"Well, what if Mommy said that you could go and see them? Would you like that?"
"Yesss!"
"Okay, we are going back home, but I have to tell you something, okay?"
Ethan stopped what he was doing and looked at his mother with much concern. Her voice had alerted him that something serious was wrong and he needed to sit down and listen. It was something that Giselle had taught him early on. It helped best when she had to tell Ethan that he would have two houses to enjoy rather than one with both of his parents.
