Chapter 12
The car ride to Gabrielle's school was awfully quiet, except for Beyoncé and Gabrielle in the backseat. The two girls were singing "Let It Go" at the top of their lungs, not caring if Giselle wanted to hear it or not. It was Gabrielle's favorite song, and Beyoncé was determined to make her daughter happy.
"Mommy, we should go see the new Frozen."
"The new one?" Beyoncé asked with a slight frown. She hadn't heard a thing about a new Frozen, which she silently thanked God about. The downside about it was that Gabby knew about one.
Gabrielle nodded her head. "Mhm. We have to see Cinderella first."
Beyoncé thought about it for a moment. "Alright. We'll see about that, alright." Bey made a mental note to remind Giselle about it. It was rare that Beyoncé turned down a movie date with her daughter, but she also had to factor in Giselle's schedule.
"When can I come back home with you, Mommy?" Gabby asked in a serious, yet whiny tone. She hadn't been explained the true reason why she isn't with her mother. Giselle thought it was best simply because she didn't want Gabrielle to think different of her mother. Regardless of how anyone felt, Beyoncé was still the girl's mother.
"Well, Mommy can't explain that to you right now, because I don't know how."
"Will you tell me when you find out?"
Beyoncé laughed softly. "Of course, kiddo. Just know that Mommy loves you very much."
Gabrielle leaned over and planted a kiss on her mother's cheek. Beyoncé beamed happily and reciprocated the gesture. Giselle pulled up at the front of the school and got out of the truck. It wasn't normal for parents to get out of their vehicles, due to the want to keep up with the flow of traffic.
"Bye Auntie! Bye Mommy!" Gabrielle happily said before taking off running into the school. Beyoncé watched her and smiled weakly to herself.
Giselle noticed and sighed. "You can come with me to pick her up later. But right now, I want to go over Mama's house."
Beyoncé rolled her eyes, knowing what the conversation would be like. It wasn't the ideal time for the conversation, but she couldn't help but put her big girl panties on and handle the situation. She'd done good with avoiding her family, but it was kind of hard now given her situation. "That's fine."
The twenty minute drive to their mother's house seemed like an hour drive. Beyoncé had told Giselle several times that she drives like someone's grandmother, but Giselle liked to rebut and say she was a cautioned driver.
Beyoncé jumped out the backseat and made her way to the front door where she rang the doorbell. It took her mother less than a minute to open the door with a smile. The inviting smile of breakfast filled the girls' nostrils, causing their stomachs to growl instantly. Katherine quickly ushered them in, happy to see them together finally.
"How are you two?" She asked, entering the kitchen.
"I'm fine," Giselle answered honestly.
"Beyoncé?" Katherine turned her attention to her daughter sympathetically. She had so much questions, but knew not to bombard. Beyoncé had a way of using her defenses the minute she felt like things were going her way.
Weakly, Beyoncé smiled and took her seat at the table. "I'm doing great."
"You don't look great," Katherine replied. "I birthed you, I know what you normally look like."
Beyoncé smirked. "How about given the circumstances?"
Katherine nodded and took her normal seat and looked at her daughters. "Have you talked to those people at all? Have they contacted you or anything?"
