Connie P.O.V
"You ready," I ask Joel as all of us head up in the elevator to the top of the building. The elevator is by the edge of the building with clear glass perimeters so you can see how beautiful the city really is. We're going up 30 stories to the top, so the lift is a timely ride.
"Joel, you'll be fine mate." Adam comments.
"Joel, you will be ok no matter what," Carol adds on.I see Joel bouncing on the balls of his feet inhaling and exhaling deeply. I see him look up at the ceiling and then at me, but then back down at the floor in embarrassment when he realises I'm looking. His hair has flopped on one side, his jacket hangs over his shoulder and his safety harness tucks tightly into his stomach. His eyes flutter quickly when he's nervous, which is pretty cute actually, and the beard he's grown really makes him gorgeous. I hate seeing him all anxious, but I don't know why I feel this strongly.
I grab his hand quickly and look up to his flustered cheeks and pleading brown eyes that look back at me.
"Joel, listen to me. You will be ok. Do you trust me?"
He nods quickly. "Yeah, I do."
"Well then-" I start "- your gonna get your butt out there onto that plank and your gonna smash this trial for Wayne ok!" I exclaim.
"Ok!" Joel exclaims with a massive smile on his face.
"How come he listens to you Connie and not us?" Jordan asks.
"Because of Joel already lov-," Adam replies jokily but is interrupted as Joel leans over and thumps his head.
"Thanks, man!" Adam says rubbing his head, making me and Carol laugh immediately.
Before we know it, we're lined up on the top of the building. Looking out at the 10-metre platform, it looks beautiful but extremely windy and cold. I feel my stomach turn and clench as I look over the edge quickly.
I feel someone grab my hand as I look up to see Joel. I stare into his eyes as he tells me something. I can't decipher it, but we just end up smiling at each other anyway.
"You'll be fine," Joel says moving a piece of hair from my face. "Well, be fine." He says quietly squeezing my hand firmly for the assumption. I can't help but pull him into a hug. I feel his large muscular body on mine and I whisper "thank you" into his shoulder.
As we are lined up information, Ant and Dec start explaining the trial. We have to walk out onto the platform into the yellow square and shout "time" when we think 60 seconds have gone.
Carol walks out confidently first as I stay with Adam, Jordan and Joel safely on the sidelines.
"Ahh, it's so windy," Carol shouts.
"You can do it" I shout.
"You got this Vorderman!" Adam shouts.
"Come on Carol."
Just looking at how windy it makes my stomach clench.
"58, 59 and time!" Carol shouts. Surely she must have been close, I mean, she is an amazing mathematician! Her legs are shaking like jelly making it hard for her to turn round.
She walks back down the plank and onto the top of the building like a pro with no fear. We all give her a massive hug and high fives.
"That is so so hard! I mean, it so windy out there. My legs were like jelly."
After Jordan and Adam walk out onto the plank with no fear of heights, it was finally Joel's turn.
"I don't know if I can do this Connie," Joel whispers to me as Ant says it's his turn.
