"You ready babe." I ask my girlfriend as I adjust my jeans and unlock the front door.

"Ready when you are." She replies as she walks out of the kitchen in a beautiful, body fitting black dress.

"Wow." I say as she walks out the door in front of me.

"Thanks." She replies. I shut the door and lock it. I turn around and take her hand as we walk down the steps and out of the gate at the bottom of our gorgeous garden.

I decided to take Connie on a date tonight. She's been working so hard over the past year, and now is the only occasion she's got time off.

She's been off for four days as her coach, Thomas, has had to go to hospital to look after his wife who's gone into labour.

We walk down the long and busy path to one of our favourite restaurants in London, Manna. As soon as we walk in, I tell the waiter about my call earlier, and he leads us to our table on the roof, overlooking the city and the Thames.

"You reserved us a table?" She asks me as I pull her chair out and she sits down and tucks it in.

"I did." I say as I sit down opposite her.

"You're the best." She tells me as I take her hand and hold it over the table.

"I love you so much." I confess. "I'm so glad you have this time off."

"Me too, it's nice to finally spend some quality time together." She tells me before looking down at her dress.

"I'm really sorry that I'm working all the time." She tells me.

"It's ok. We may not see each other all day every day, but we see each other almost every night. Besides, all this work your doing is going to lead you to something incredible. Your gonna bring home a gold medal in 2020 you know." I tell her as she smiles back at me.

"I hope so. That would be perfect."

We continue talking and we eat our starters and mains. We order a dessert to share as well and as we wait, we just talk naturally, enjoying each others company before my beautiful girlfriend has to work again tomorrow.

The truth is, I love Connie so much. So much that I want to spend my life with her, and I know that there is only one way to tell her and celebrate that. I want to settle down with her, and call her a very special part of my life.

"Hi, are you Connie Richards?" A teenage girl says as she and her friend approaches our table.

"And your Joel right?" The other girl asks.

"That's us." Connie says.

"I loved you two on Im a celebrity last year. Can we get a picture?" The taller brunette asks as we approve, and I stand and move around the back of Connie's chair. We take a selfie together and the girls walk away after hugs from us both.

Before I sit back down, I place my hands inside my pocket, and sure enough, the box is still there.

"You ok? You look, nervous." Connie tells me. I tell you, this girl can read me like a book.

"It's just crazy meeting so many fans." I lie.

We eat our dessert and I pay the bill before we join hands again and leave.

"So, where to now?" She asks me as we walk together down the busy and lit up streets of London.

"I have an idea." I reply.

We take a ten minute walk down the Thames, and we arrive outside Buckingham palace whilst we are walking.

"Elizabeth's home." Connie says to me as we wave over at the castle.

"What's it like meeting the queen?" I ask her. I've always wondered what it's like, and the queen had met every Olympian on the GB team.

"She's fascinating, our queen." She smiles up at me as I kiss her lips for a few seconds, and we carry on walking.

"We're here." I say after another 15 minutes.

We both look up to see the Shard, a 310 meter tall building that overlooks pretty much the whole of London.

"Wow, the view must be amazing from up there." She tells me as we start to walk towards the entrance.

"Wait." She stops me. "Aren't you scared of heights?"

"I'll go up there if I'm with you." I tell her.

"We don't have to-" she starts.

"Shhh..." I say as I place a finger on her lips. "I want to." I whisper. She hugs me tight before we walk inside the building.

We reach the top eventually, and there's only around 10 people up here. The view of the city that never sleeps is amazing, and incredibly beautiful.

"Wow. This is amazing." Connie says as we both look over the open and busy city.

"It is, and so are you." I tell her truthfully as she kisses my lips softly and blushes, causing me to grin.

"Actually Connie, I've got something to ask." I say. I turn to her, and stare into those blue eyes that keep me going every day. I move the blonde hair from her face and hold her hands.

"I've loved you ever since I first met you in Australia almost two years ago. Your perfect in every single way. I'm so lucky to have you, and to be able to love you every day. We may not be together as much as any other couple, but I don't want that to effect us. Your perfect for me, and I want to spend my entire life with you. Which is why I want to ask you this." I tell her and all she does is smile.

I reach into my pocket and it's still there. I let her hands go, and get down on one knee. I pull the box from my pocket and open it, showing her the diamond ring.

"Oh, Joel!" Connie gasps and smiles as she covers her mouth with her hands.

"Connie Richards, will you marry me?" I ask as I feel my heart pumping like crazy. I'm just a big kid who messes around on stage and makes money for it. How have I ended up with such an incredible, beautiful and talented person.

"Yes! Yes I'll marry you!" She exclaims as I stand up quickly and she gives me a long, tight hug.

"I love you so much." She whispers as she stares into my eyes and I stroke her face with my hand.

"I love you too baby. So much." I tell her.

She stands and holds her hand out as I remove the ring and slip it over her finger. She looks down to admire the beauty, and she then pulls me in for a long and meaningful kiss.

Connie pulls away and hugs me tight again. I wrap my hands around her waist and pull her as close as she can get.

I only take my eyes off of her to look at the people around us who are clapping and smiling over at us.

"We're gonna get married!" She says as she squeals and hugs me again.

"I love you so much Connie." I tell her.

"I love you too Joel. So much."
