I sigh as we arrive at Alex's party and switch of the ignition, forcing us into darkness.

"So that's it then," Nicki whispers bitterly sitting next to me.

"Come on Nicks we were over last year, we just aren't right for each other," I respond gently.

"Don't be a coward Eli, who is it that you're dumping me for?"

"Don't be like that Nicki, we might still be together properly if you hadn't cheated on me all last summer!" I exclaim.

"Oh so it's all my fault then? At least take some of the blame," she shouts at me "you and that little slut."

"Don't you dare call her that!" I almost explode when she insults Dani, shutting her down instantly. "Anyway we're here now, I need to go and make sure Dani's ok."

I let myself out of the tension-filled car and shut it firmly. She gets out as well, slamming her door firmly and storming after me, her feet crunching harshly on the gravel.

"Eli, wait!"

"Yes?" I turn around exhaling.

I do feel bad for her, I've suddenly just ended everything after a fairly hopeful summer for our relationship. However, this summer a lot has also changed. My feelings for Dani have changed so much; there's no competition.

"So that's it? There's nothing I can do?" Her face is so demanding.

"I'm sorry but ... no," I say firmly.

Her eyes suddenly flicker behind me, spotting someone by the house. However, before I turn to look at her target, I lean down to give her a friendly kiss on the cheek. I don't want to end things badly.

"Like hell there isn't!" She pulls me straight towards her aggressively and pushes her lips to mine.

" ... Nicki - stop!" I try and mumble through her forceful lips.

Admittedly, I let mine linger for a moment, I'm so stunned that I don't know what to do. I can hear distant talking behind me and suddenly I become aware that I need to stop this right now. I can not break my promise to Dani. However, before I can move Nicki suddenly springs away from me in a panic. The next thing I know, I'm being whacked on the back of my head in a hard but familiar way.

"What the -?" I protest in confusion and shock as I turn to see my little sister with a face like thunder. I turn to demand what the hell she thinks she's doing, when I make direct contact with a familiar pair of big brown eyes.

"Oh shit," I hear Josh repeat and I notice that he's stood protectively next to Dani.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Cara yells at me "Dani was just in there ending things with Alex for you and she was fucking traumatised enough without having to come outside and see you with this tramp."

"Hey! Who the fuck do you think you're talking about?" Nicki comes up behind me challenging Cara. This is not going to end well.
