Chapter 5
The Housemate
After hours of spending at her room lost in her thoughts, Soojung went downstairs to the kitchen. She's not really hungry but she once made a promised to her mother that she will not let herself skip even a single meal of the day. And today is no different.
Even though her appetite is not really inviting her to dinner, her body was so used to it that it unconsciously drag her to the kitchen and make some food. She's half way through her cooking when she remembered that she now has a new housemate. It's a little weird for her because she got used to living alone.
"Where is that idiot?"
Soojung finished her cooking, she made sure to make dinner enough for the both of them then went to search for him around the house.
She saw that the sliding door of the patio leading to the west garden of her house were open. She went outside and found him there laying down under the tree with closed eyes.
"Oi ....sleepyhead. Wake up." she said softly.
But Jongin doesn't seem to have heard her.
"Oi! Wake up!" she shouted.
Jongin opened his eyes. He sat up and looked up at her.
"What's up?"
"How can you sleep on a time like this?!" Soojung's starting to get irritated again.
"Why? What time is it?" he said, stretching and yawning.
"It's late. Have you been here the rest of the day sleeping?"
"I'm watching the clouds earlier. I must have doze off when it started to get dark."
"How can you take this so calmly!?"
"What are you talking about? Why are you shouting anyway?"
"Because-....." Soojung stopped herself from pouring out her frustration to him.
She take a few deep breathes to calm herself. "Dinner's ready."
Then she went inside the house leaving Jongin confused. He got up and went inside too.
They ate in silence again. But now it's different. Soojung's still irritated and worried while Jongin is beyond confused.
"Will you just tell me what's wrong?" Jongin said, unable to take it anymore.
She ignored him, she continued her eating like she didn't heard him.
"Look," Jongin put down his chopsticks and faced her with seriousness. "... if you don't want me here it's totally fine. I can leave if you want to. I'm not forcing myself here."
"I already told you you can stay here, remember?" she said without looking at him, she's still focused on her food.
"Then why the long face? You look like you'll put a knife down my throat."
This made Soojung smirk a little. "That's an interesting idea."
"Damn, woman are so hard to read. That's why I'll never plan on getting married."
"At this rate no one will even consider marrying you, dummy."
"Are you still mad about the deal earlier?" Jongin thought that it must be the reason she's acting strange.
"Maybe it's nothing for you but for me, that deal is my everything. Mr. S easily let you go with my house. That is so not Mr. S! Maybe you wouldn't care but for me, I can't even think straight from worrying." she said as she looks at him in the eyes.
