The Puppets

"So which one do you want?"

Jongin and Soojung are back at Soojung's room. The meeting have been adjourn and in about an hour the mission will begin.

Jongin and Soojung only have less than an hour to prepare before joining the squads.

"Squad 2." she answered while stuffing her leg pouch with weapons.

"I've figured you would choose that." Jongin is also doing the same. It made him wish he had his Goguryeo battle gear with him, he can put more weapons and useful battle tools in there but for now he just settles with his back pocket and the leg-pouch he have where his dagger usually are.

"Why? Do you have something else in mind?" she catch up on his tone.

"Diversion is nice but if you're gonna ask me I'll pick the third squad. It is the most crucial part of the mission after all."

"Captain Minseok will be leading the group, they'll be fine."

"I'm not saying he is not capable. But it won't hurt a few extra help, he needs all the help he can get anyway. The council leaders will be locked up pretty good and the security will not be a piece of cake."

"So you were saying we should be in the third squad?"

"I'm saying we could be more useful if we choose defending the infiltration."

Soojung closes her eyes, contemplating if she will agree on him.

"Besides, I'm pretty good with infiltrating, you know." he said with a smirk.

And it turned out Jongin was not bluffing about his infiltration abilities. The two of them blended with the third squad without raising any suspicions.

The three squads left the headquarters using different exits. In about an hour all the squads were in their position, ready to do their part.

Soojung and Jongin had to make sure they were not too close to Captain Minseok. They choose to be at the back of the group as a look out. It also helped that they are all wearing hooded cloaks.

Then right on time at Captain Minseok's watch, the emergency bells were rung by palace guards. The commotion on the western side of the Palace can still be heard from their location. Now they have less than 10 minutes to do the job.

And that's when everything went wrong.

Ten seconds after the alarm was activated an army of puppets and knights appeared right in front of them.

"They know the plan!" Captain Minseok yelled to the group.

"We need to fallback!" says Junmyun.

The puppets started attacking. The third squad had no choice but to defend themselves.

A fight had started.

Jongin and Soojung fought alongside the whole third squad, not even minding if their true identities will be discovered.

Jongin's fighting 4 knights at the same time while Soojung have five puppets to make her busy. She launch a combination attack that she had perfected through her training, sending her opponents flying.

The puppets were destroyed but something caught Soojung's attention. One of the puppets head were cut off and the chest part had cracked open. Soojung squatted down to look closer.

Is this some sort of device?

She picked the green flat-like material that looks like a paper with carvings. She saw that it has numerous lights before the thing had smashed itself to the ground.
