Chapter 34
Death
Soojung only have a second to react.
She ran inside the house. Minhyuk didn't even run after her. He stayed on his ground as Soojung tries to close the sliding door. Minyuk turned and Soojung gasped upon seeing his eyes.
They are ready to kill.
Soojung run towards the second floor.
"You can't run from me Princess."
She reached the room she's been avoiding for the last few days. It's his room.
Soojung opens the treasure chest at the end of the bed and found what she was looking for.
It's his dagger.
Soojung had no idea why Jongin will leave his dagger behind. As far as she knows he never takes it off him. It's his favorite weapon. She was really surprised the day she goes to his room and find the dagger in his bedside table with a note saying the dagger is now hers.
Now Soojung know why he left it here.
To protect her.
Jongin ...it's always been about protecting me.
A tear escaped her eyes upon seeing the dagger but she flinched when she heard the sliding door being blasted open.
Jongin didn't just left me his dagger, he also gave me something more precious than anything else and I would do everything to protect him. Both of us.
Soojung run out of the room and proceeded in running towards the back door. There's a secret exit at the west side of the house. She needs to get out of here. She might not know what's happening to her friend but she's pretty sure she's in danger.
Soojung managed to reach the back door without Minhyuk in her tail. As quietly as she can she opens the door.
"Found you."
Soojung turns around as Minhyuk slash his knife again and this time he got the side back. Her clothes were cut and blood started spreading through the fabric.
Minhyuk's eyes grew wide upon seeing the red stain.
"So beautiful.."
He went for another attack but this time Soojung moved her arm and swung the dagger blocking his attack.
"Minhyuk what are you doing?!" She tries to put power in her arm. He's a strong knight.
"You shouldn't have let that tenant of yours take you Soojung. You should have given yourself to me."
"Minhyuk stop this nonsense!"
She kicks him but Minhyuk is a skilled combat warrior. There's a reason why he got into Elite even at the young age. His combat skills can rival even of the General.
"You don't have to worry, Princess. I'll make it quick. Just a few minutes of bleeding then you will no longer feel the pain."
He started attacking again. Swaying his knife in the right angles that Soojung had no power to counter. She keeps dodging his attacks but her dizziness and the cuts she already have has made her slower.
She lost her balance and was thrown at the boxes. Minhyuk walks over to her and when he's grabbing her arm Soojung uses all of her strength to pull him down and knock his feet with a kick. Minhyuk stumbled down to the floor as Soojung took this chance to stand up and go out of the back door.
She ran in the open, drops of her blood staining the white snow. Earlier she told the palace guards to leave early since it's the Christmas Eve and that there's really no point on guarding the house since she'll be spending the night at the Palace with her brother and sister. But now she silently wish for the guards to come back.
"You're wasting your blood in the snow Soojung."
Soojung looks back. Minhyuk's walking calmly towards her. She started running faster.
Then Minhyuk suddenly appeared in front of her. She points the dagger at him.
"What do you want from me?! What did you do to yourself?! You're not Minhyuk!"
"It's still me Soojung. I just found out who I really am." he said with a sad smile. "You remember when we were kids? Wondering why we were born in this world? What's our purpose? Why you were born in the royal family but was never destined to be the queen? Why I was left at the military by my own mother? You remember them Soojung?"
"That has nothing to do with this! You're trying to kill me!"
Minhyuk widens his eyes, shocked. "I'm not, Soojung. I was never a murderer. I don't want you dead. I treasure you. Always."
"Clearly you have a different definition of treasuring someone."
"It's your fault. You shouldn't have chosen that Jongin! Look what he did to you, he just left you after enjoying himself with your body. Now you carry his child but where is he?"
His words cut through Soojung like his knife.
"He abandoned you Soojung. He left you."
Soojung swallowed hard. She had learned to master up her emotions during battle. She will not let her guard down just because he's hitting sensitive spots in her soul. "But at least he never tried to kill me." she said firmly.
"I told you I'm not gonna kill you."
"I don't believe you." her friend is not in the right mind and she knows it.
"Look, just put that dagger down and let me take care of you." he said, he took a small step towards her.
"And what? Let you slice me to pieces?!" Soojung took a step back.
"No. I'll even clean those wounds. I'm sorry about that. Your blood just taste so good I can't resist."
"You're a lunatic!"
"Yes! Yes! I am!" Minhyuk started laughing again. Soojung grips her dagger tightly. If it will go down to combat she knows she's no match to him but she will not go down without a fight.
Minyuk's eyes lost focus again and when he reopens them he stare at her with hunger. "Blood. I need blood."
In the blink of an eye he ran towards Soojung.
Slash.
Drops of blood fell to the snow. Followed by a body.
With wide eyes Soojung stare at the back of a man in front of her.
Tears escaped her eyes.
"Soojung..."
Her body's shaking. Her knees grew weak and her hand lost it's grip on the dagger. It fell to the snow quietly.
"Soojung!"
Slowly her eyes went up to the man in front of her, holding her shoulders, shaking her.
Then her body fall.
"...Jongin.."
