Hey everyone. Long time no see. So, I just want to say a few things before the start of this chapter. I am well aware of the fact that the Fairy Tail manga has already ended. Even so, I will continue to write fanfiction for Fairy Tail. I cannot tell you more in terms of updates due to the fact that there is no certain schedule. Sometimes, I am just really busy with school and other times I am just really lazy. Bottom line is that my updates may take like fifty billion years or just a week. I don't know. But I do want to reassure everyone that I will always finish these fanfics. I do apologize for my incompetence.
Anyway, I have delayed this update for a long time now. I hope you enjoy this second to last chapter.

Darkness. That was the only thing that Lucy remembered before she supposedly died; at least, that's what Happy told her when she woke up that Christmas morning.
Die. The word just kept repeating itself over and over in her mind. She had died by the hands of Frost, and she was suppose to stay like that. But Luna gave up her life. Even though Lucy is grateful for being alive once again, she couldn't help but feel guilty. Luna would be right beside her if Lucy would have been more careful. Stronger...
Despite being able to see the light of day once again, all she could see in her mind is darkness.

Although Natsu and the others have already returned from their mission, it still felt like they were miles away from the guild. The day they came back was suppose to be happy and cheerful, which Christmas finally here. And yet, nobody felt festive.
Natsu and Happy were the only ones that walked through the dual wooden doors that Christmas morning, much to everyone's concern. Those two weren't their cheery selves either. No, "I'm back!" from the dragon slayer followed by the typical Happy remark of "Aye!" It was just dead silence.
"Welcome back you two!" Mira happily said to lighten up the mood, but to no avail. When Natsu and Happy arrived at the front of the bar, Mira asked about Lucy's whereabouts. Mira noticed the way Happy looked away, avoiding as much eye contact as possible. Mira was about to press the cat for answers until Natsu finally decided to respond.
"Lucy..." Mira could have sworn that Natsu sounded uneasy when he said her name, but decided to let it go. "Said she was tired...and decided to turn in for the day..."
"We're kind of tired too. So, if you don't mind, we'll go on ahead," Happy said before nudging Natsu to head outside. Without another word, the two exited the guild.
"Master," Mira said as soon as Natsu and Happy were out of earshot.
Makarov folded his arms with a grunt. He is relieved to know that all three of them were all right, to say the least, but something was obviously amiss. It hurts, but Makarov knew that he should not meddle in their affairs at the moment. Best thing to do for them is to welcome them with open arms when they are ready to return.

"I'm so sorry..."
Lucy slowly opens her eyes, only to see darkness once again. Everywhere she looked, there was darkness. She signed. It has been a week since they have finished their mission and returned to the guild. At least that's what it felt like to Lucy. Everything just felt so dark, as if time had stopped and the world was stuck in a never ending darkness.
Lucy felt the dryness in her throat and decided to drink some water. How long has it been since she has even consumed something? As she tried to sit up, Lucy felt something in her wrist that prevented her from getting up.
Right at her bedside was a sleeping dragon and cat. She also realized for the first time how messy her room has become. There was a pile of dirty clothes next to the bathroom door. A stack of used plates were scattered on the table. A couple of bags can be found every step you take. Lucy was furious at the mess that those two have made, but then it hit her. No matter how messy and disorganized those two are, there is no way that they could've made this much of a mess within a day. At least, not in someone's house.
Lucy held her forehead using her free arm. 'Have I really been lying on my bed for a long time?' Now she looked down at Natsu and Happy. 'And how long have these two been here?'
Lucy tried to get out of bed once again, but Natsu wouldn't let go. Even though he was sleeping, Natsu had such a strong grip on Lucy. She couldn't escape even if she tried. Knowing that resistance is futile, Lucy just lied back down and hoped that her parched throat wouldn't be that much of a bother. If only she could say the same for the darkness.
"I'm so sorry..."
Those three words rang in her head once more. Lucy sighed with frustration this time.
'Why did it have to be like this?'

⭐️Flashback: Christmas morning. Lucy's apartment⭐️
When Lucy woke up, Natsu and Happy were beyond relieved. It didn't last long though because Lucy asked for Luna's whereabouts. Natsu and Happy looked at each other and then looked away, avoiding as much we contact as possible.
"Guys..." Lucy slowly said, now having an uneasy tone. "Where is Luna?"
"Luna used this celestial spell to bring you back to life," said Happy. He was having such a difficult time saying every single word, and the worst part is that he wasn't even done yet. "But..." The tears that Happy tried so hard to hold just burst out of his eyes. "She sacrificed herself in return."
"No..." Lucy whispered to herself. She furiously shook her head, as if to deny every single word that she had just heard. "Why did she..." Lucy's tears started to flow out as well. She was so distraught that her body just couldn't handle it anymore. She just fell back to her bed.
Natsu managed to catch Lucy in time. He gently laid her down on the bed and brought the sheets up to her chest. Natsu then gestured to Happy that they should give Lucy some time alone. He took Happy in his arms and made his way to the door. Before he left, he took a quick glance at Lucy, who was still in shock. Then, Natsu looked away, whispered something under his breath, and left the building.
⭐️End of Flashback⭐️

"I'm so sorry..."
Lucy clearly remembered the expression on the dragon slayer's face when he said those words despite her breakdown. His onyx eyes, so full of anguish and concern. His teeth gritting together as if he was trying to hold back the words that he wanted to say. To hold back the frustration that was bottled up inside his heart. The way he said those three words. Sorrow, regret, and grief. His expression has been continuously gnawing her ever since, and Lucy absolutely hated this feeling.
Luna was gone. Her mother has probably returned to wherever she previously was. Heck, she even lost her own life. Although Lucy is still devastated at all of the losses that she has experienced yet again, she couldn't stand the fact that Natsu had made an expression like that.
Never again...
A sliver of sunlight peeked its way past the curtains, signaling everyone that morning has arrived once again.
