"Er... Uncle Nick?" Romeo began as he walked into the kitchen.

"What do you need, kid?" Nick asked. It was nearly six thirty and Nick was working on dinner.

"Erm, what can you tell me about Marcus Hunter?" Romeo asked. Nick stopped stirring the pasta for a moment and sighed. He continued dinner as he tried to find the right words to use.

"Romeo, you understand that we come from a small town, right? Everyone kind of knows each other." Nick began. His nephew nodded.

"Of course. I've lived her for most of my life. I've noticed." Romeo told his uncle. It was Nick's turn to nod.

"Keep that in mind, kiddo. Let's just say I knew Marcus very well. He was a friend of mine... And your dad. It was usually the four of us back in high school."

"Wait four? I only count three." Romeo wondered.

Nick laughed. "You're not the first Cameron to befriend a Russo, you know. Matteo Russo, Anthony's dad, was one of our closest friends in high school."

Romeo was not too surprised by this. He had known that their families were close in the past, so it made sense that their parents had been friends as teens.

"What was Marcus like?" Romeo wondered curiously.

"He was the trouble maker. I was the flirt. Your dad was the dork. Matteo was the wisecracker. Together we were the perfect team for causing trouble. Marcus had a troubled life, you know. He was often pretty stressed. He got in trouble often and had a bit of a temper, but much of the time he was mild mannered and focused. I remember he studied a lot. He wanted to be a dentist and because of his rough childhood he knew he would have to buckle down and work hard to accomplish that goal. That's what I remember about Marcus." Nick said, in a slight daze. He looked as if he missed the good old days.

"Oh..." Romeo said. He didn't know what else to say. Marcus Hunter didn't sound like he was the monster Julie said he became. What happened? Was it his job? Upbringing? His kids? What had caused him to become so abusive?

"Why are you asking, kiddo?" Nick wondered.

Romeo felt his mouth open as if on s hinge and the truth came out. "I did something bad."
