"Alright class! Today we're going to be working on a group project. I want you to make up a fictional society. It can be whatever type of government you want. By the end of the week your society must be put together and you must present a sort-of commercial to try and convince people to move there. This is a crossover project with your social studies class if you haven't already guessed." Mr. Harvey explained to his English class. Emily Baker raised her hand.
"Can we pick our own group?" Emily asked.
"Yes, but no more than five to a group."
Emily beamed and shot her boyfriend and then her best friend glances. Eric and Alicia smiled back at her.
"Alright, get in your groups." Mr. Harvey said. The entire class began moving.
"Hey can I join you guys?" Troy asked Emily's group. She agreed.
Ivy met Anthony and Mark in the middle of the class. They had planned on being in a group together.
Romeo and Juliet met their friends at the same time. They looked awkwardly at each other.
"Er... We can work together, can't we?" Romeo questioned, not wanting to make his friends choose between the two of them. Julie nodded.
The project seemed to be going fine for a while.
"Are you sure that's what we want to do for a government? I mean we want to get the best grade we can on this. I don't see how having a pornocracy is going to get us a good grade." Julie told her friends.
"Yeah but it's funny." Romeo laughed, high fiving his best friend. Anthony nodded.
"A government run by harlots? Really?" Mark said. Nobody paid him any mind.
"That's so immature! Why can't we have a serious government?" Julie wondered.
Romeo snorted. "Like what?"
"I don't know. A democracy, maybe?" Julie suggested.
"Are you kidding me? We've got Donald Trump running for president. Nobody's taking this election seriously." Romeo stated.
"We still have a much better government than some places." Julie explained. "It's better than a pornocracy."
"No it's not. The pornocracy idea is hilarious." Ivy smirked.
"Ivy, not you too." Julie whined.
"Sorry," Ivy told her.
"I don't know... Julie, does have a point. We want a good grade on this. We've got to take this seriously. Perhaps we should make a list of all the types of governments we know-" Anthony was interrupted.
"Fine, we won't do a pornocracy, but we should still do something more entertaining." Romeo huffed.
"Like what?" Julie scowled.
"I don't know! Just let's do something different. Everyone else is going to do stuff like monarchy or democracy. Let's do something else." Romeo told her. The anger they had been keeping in from each other was about to burst.
"Like what? You want to have something like a dictatorship or something?" Julie glared, raising her voice at Romeo.
"Hey, that could be interesting. Maybe it's like the people think they have some sort of democracy, but really it's a dictatorship in disguise, run by one man and a secret society!" Ivy suggested. Her idea was ignored by Romeo and Julie.
"I never said a dictatorship. It could be basically anything. Let's face it. This isn't about the project! You're still mad at me. That's what this is about, isn't it!" Romeo accused.
They were gathering a lot of attention now. At a different collection of tables Emily, Eric, and Alicia shared worried looks. Troy was confused to what they were arguing about. Mr. Harvey was making his way over already.
"Maybe it is! I have every right to be still mad about that! You had no right!" Julie exclaimed. "I wish I could be over this but I'm not! I trusted you! And that's why it hurts so badly! I can't be around you right now. It was my fault to think I could." Julie now had the entire class' attention.
"Romeo and Julie, stop. I'm going to have to move one of you." Mr. Harvey interrupted the argument.
"I'll move. Sorry, guys." Julie mumbled to her friends.
"You can work here." Mr. Harvey gestured to Emily's group. Troy smiled at Julie. Eric looked worried for his friend.
Romeo relaxed, looking upset. Juliet could really hold a grudge. And it was just hurting her even more. He saw it in her eyes.
Not only that, but he was pushing her away... And someone else was ready for him to push her into their arms.
