Perhaps Troy and Romeo really needed to be separated, because right now they were sitting in the counselor's office in front of Ms. Taylor, the young high school counselor. The two both sported new bruises and Juliet sat in between them flaming up furiously.
"Oh boy, boys." Ms. Taylor sighed. "Who can tell me what happened?"
"I will." Julie was eager to please a teacher as usual. "So we were in P.E..."
They had made it through the day pretty alright. Troy and Romeo had gotten in one argument during English but it had been quickly put to rest by Mr. Harvey.
Julie had been rather relived and exhausted because of their fighting. She was relieved that it had stopped, but she was exhausted that it kept happening.
P.E was the last period of the day. Surely nothing could go wrong in the next forty minutes left of the school day.
Dodgeball was supposed to be a fun game about hitting your friends and classmates with ball. It was never as innocent as it appeared.
Bam! Ivy had struck Julie in the side with a ball. She had already gotten her boyfriend, Mark, Rosie Owens, Anna Zeller, Eric, and now her best friend out. It was creepy to watch her laugh with glee as she struck out all her friends.
"Ouch, Ivy!" Julie exclaimed.
"You're a tyrant, Collins!" Anthony shouted, already sitting out.
She only had one more target to go after when it came to her friends and then she was going to go after everyone else. She had already hit two people who she wasn't friends with, but she had to get everyone. Her next target was Romeo Cameron. He appeared a little busy at the moment.
"That doesn't count! I hit you first!"
"No I clearly hit you first, dumb*ss! It ricocheted off you for pete's sake!"
"After I hit you!"
Ivy rolled her eyes as she saw from across the gym that Romeo and Troy had found another way to argue with each other.
"Hey, Jules," Ivy said crouching down to her friend's level so people would think she was out and wouldn't attack her while she was talking. "Check out Paris and Romeo over there. They're fighting like kindergartens. Which should I go after first?"
"Don't call him that!" Juliet blushed, referring to Ivy calling Troy by his last name.
"But that's his last name!"
"I hate my life." Julie sighed. The two boys in school that liked her just had to be Troy Paris and Romeo Cameron.
"Fine I'm just going to nail 'em both!" Ivy stated, after Julie didn't answer.
"Don't say it like that!" Anthony exclaimed.
"You know what I meant-" Ivy stopped as a large group of kids had gathered around where Romeo and Troy had been.
"Uh oh..." Ivy mumbled.
Juliet's eyes went wide. She leaped to her feet. She knew from the tone of Ivy's voice and the cheering that the crowd was making what exactly was going on. She pushed her way through the crowd to be disappointed that her assumption was correct.
Troy and Romeo were trying to hit each other, but not with balls. Troy attempted to punch Romeo in the jaw, but the young Cameron dodged just in time. Romeo decided that grabbing Troy by the shirt and trying to throw him to the ground was the proper response. Troy's fist flew across Romeo's face, giving the brunette a nasty black eye.
Julie didn't know exactly what had come over her, to cause her to act so impulsively, but she dived between Romeo and Troy. She didn't care if she accidentally got hit in the process. She just didn't want to see someone get hurt any further.
She expected to get hit for jumping in, but she hadn't realized that the boys had been mostly fighting over her. That's where the tension had sprung from. And neither would lay a hand on sweet Juliet.
"Stop!" Julie exclaimed.
"Julie," Romeo's breath was heavy. He gazed at her in shock at her impulsion and admired her bravery.
Mrs. Holt blew her whistle. She had been halfway across the room trying to calm down Sean Draper who had gotten whacked really hard in the face and had gotten a bloody nose when the fight broke out barely a minute before. Now she had to get her class under control.
"Kent, would you please help Draper here with his bloody nose?" Holt asked, referring to Mark. It was difficult to tell because of Mark's dark skin, but he could feel himself blush as he nodded and escorted Sean to the bathroom.
"Cameron! Paris!" Mrs. Holt continued. "I think Ms. Taylor needs to see you! Hunter, would you please escort them?"
"Oh boy. So you two were fighting over who hit who first?" Ms. Taylor wondered.
Romeo and Troy looked at each other and then looked at Julie. For once they were thinking the exact same thing.
"Yeah let's go with that." The stated in unison.
Their exchange didn't go unnoticed by Ms. Taylor, however Julie didn't see it. Ms. Taylor knew what had caused their fight as soon as she saw the look in their eyes as the glanced at Julie, Romeo especially.
"Juliet, could you please get Mr. Cameron some ice for his eye. I trust you know where the machine is." Ms. Taylor was not a stranger to Juliet and Julie had been in her office many times over the past few years. Julie nodded and stood up.
"Alright, I'm going to have to discuss this with your teacher but I think I have a punishment that will benefit everyone. For the best two weeks, starting Monday, you have dentition with me after school, together. We're going to get you past your issues with each other." Ms. Taylor stated. The boys both groaned. "I'm sorry but this is what happens when you get in fights."
Ms. Taylor dismissed them.
