When they ask me about you
When they ask how it felt to love you
Was it exciting? Thrilling? Sad?
I will sayLoving you was like holding a candle
I had to be careful with you
Because one gust of wind
And you would disappear foreverI will tell them it was indeed love
Because even though it didn't last
Time doesn't measure love
We measured it ourselvesI knew it was love because of all the
Colors that burst when we touched
The music that played when we kissed
I will tell them all of this and moreHow beautiful you were
Laying across my sheets
Moonlight catching every curve and
Bend of youHow good it felt for you to look at me
Like I was your sun
Like I could give you the stars
Like it was only meBut I will also tell them this
That although we did love
I knew it wouldn't last long
I knew you would find someone elseIt was because you were hurting
But you wouldn't let me in to see
You could not show me your scars
And I couldn't help youIt wasn't going to last
You didn't break down your walls
And my arm broke from swinging that
Sledgehammer at it again and againSo I will tell them this
That darling you were beautiful
In the light every part of you glowed
And I loved itBut with the sunset, your wall was dark
And I couldn't see through it
I didn't need sunshine, because I already was glowing brightI needed stars for the night
