I will wait so long
For the day when we pass each other
In the halls once again
And you will look up
Your heart will jump right into your throat
Because no one warned you I was coming
Yet, I will still be there
Walking right towards you
And perhaps you will brace yourself
For the sad look in my eyes
For a sigh of desire to escape my lips
But you will not be satisfied
Because I will walk right past
You won't even get a glance,
A second of my time
And I can imagine you taking a second look, maybe even a third
My eyes you always thought so bright
Will seem neon
Because of all the years that have passed
I have been waiting so long
For that moment so you can be confused before you finally realize:
I don't care for you anymore
I don't cry over you
My eyes have not wept over you in months
And I no longer hurt
That seed of doubt you planted in my heart?
It has long since died
And I hope, I hope with everything I am
That your heart will ache and whine and beg
I hope that some part of you will want me
So you can kick yourself for letting me go
I will wait forever
Until then, get ready
Because when you least expect it
A storm will come
And guess what?
I'm bringing the thunder and the lightning
