The next morning, Marinette awoke to the smell of fresh pancakes and chilly air. She yawned and pulled herself out of bed.
Forgetting Adrien was at her house, she left her messy morning hair alone and slipped into her slippers.
When she walked into the living room, she noticed the blankets were neatly folded next to the pillows.
"Good morning M-Marinette! I hope you didn't mind, but since you me made- I mean made me dinner, I made you some pancakes?" He held out a plate of stacked pancakes to the girl shyly.
"Oh wow! That was so sweet of you, Adrien! You really didn't have to do that," Marinette smiled gently, pushing her messy bangs away from her eyes.
She noticed another wonderful smell and her eyes lit up. "Did you make coffee?" She asked, so surprised by his kindness.
"Oh, y-yes. I saw you had a coffee machine, so I kinda-sorta assumed you drank coffee. If you don't, I'm so sorry!" He quickly explained, apologizing. Adrien couldn't quite put his finger on why he was acting so weird around her. She was his friend; he never remembered acting like this in high school around her. He felt a blush fill his cheeks with a hot feeling.
"I love coffee! You're just getting sweeter and sweeter by the minute!" Marinette giggled sweetly, taking the coffee from his outstretched hand.
"Hey, sit here! Let's have breakfast together!" She pointed to the chair beside her.
He smiled nervously, taking his plate of pancakes and his cup of coffee and sitting beside her.
Marinette looked at him, a smile spread across her face.
"Meow!" Both the young adults turned to see the kittens. Plagg licked Tikki's head, purring.
"Aww..." they both said in sync.
"Jinx!" They both exclaimed, then started laughing.
"What are we? Elementary school kids?" Marinette laughed.
Adrien chuckled, "I-I wouldn't know."
"Oh, you were homeschooled for a while! Right?" She asked for confirmation.
"Y-Yeah. My father is pretty strict," Adrien replied, now remembering that his father was probably furious that he hadn't returned home.
"Hey, if you don't mind my asking, who are you hiding from?" Marinette asked curiously.
Adrien sighed, hoping she wouldn't kick him out when she heard his answer.
"Well, remember how I said I broke up with Chloe? The day before yesterday, I did it over dinner. My father, I never told him. He and the mayor of Paris arranged for Chloe and I to marry. I know he's probably going to send someone to look for me. I just can't go back..." Adrien explained, his palms becoming sweaty from his nervousness.
"I get it. I wouldn't want to go back with my ex-fiancé and you probably don't want to go back to Chloe, right? Well, you can stay as long as it takes until you find a place," Marinette replied, letting a soft smile slip from her face.
"Tha-Thank you, Marinette," he replied, his anxiety falling away.
They continued eating their breakfasts, casually making conversation. Once they finished, Marinette cleaned up the table and took the dishes to the sink.
"Hey Adrien, I'm going to run some errands. Do you want to come with me or stay home?" Marinette asked as she ran a comb through her hair.
"I-I'll go with you- if it's not a bother!" Adrien stammered.
"Of course not! Go ahead and get ready, I'll start getting ready in my room," she left to give him privacy.
When they were both done, they left the apartment to start shopping.
"So where are we going first?" Adrien asked, keeping his stammer to a minimum.
"The store. We need to buy you actual clothes and definitely not ones that Fabio wore," Marinette told him as they walked down the street.
It was a cloudy day and the air was a bit chilly. The two young adults crossed the street.
"But I don't have my credit cards! They were in my suitcase," Adrien protested.
"Nah, I'm buying the clothes. You are my guest. I pay," Marinette told him.
"Marinette, are you sure?" Adrien asked guiltily.
"Yes! No protests! I am buying you clothes and that's final!" Marinette huffed, then laughed at how he reacted.
He laughed along with her.
A/N: I cannot believe I went the whole day thinking I published this chapter. I am just looking now and realizing that this was a draft 😂
