"M-Marinette, I am so sor-" Adrien babbled, causing Marinette to put a finger to his lip in an attempt to hush him. He let go of her, his face red from blushing.
"Don't be," she smiled, her cheeks pink with an unbelievably large amount of joy. She intertwined her fingers in his hand, and he gripped her hand gently. They turned to look back up at the sky to which fireworks still went on.
Adrien however, could not pay attention to the spectacle with the beautiful girl right beside him. His gaze landed lovingly on her, and a smile tugged at his lips. Although he didn't see the explosion of colors that played into beautiful patterns in the sky often, Marinette's eyes rivaled for his attention. He rested his arm around the girl's shoulder, causing her to look at him with a blush. To his surprise, she leaned into him shyly.
"SQUEEEEEE!!!!" A really loud excited, high-pitched squeal erupted from behind the couple, causing them to jolt closer together in surprise.
"Oh um, hi Alya?" Marinette smiled nervously, blushing wildly at the boy's arm that rested around her shoulder.
"YOU GUYS KISSED!! IT'S FINALLY HAPPENED!!! THAT WAS SO PRECIOUS!" Alya screamed with joy for her best friend. At this point, she was basically sobbing at how happy she was.
Alya was very emotional.
The ride home was... quiet. Alya drove them back to Marinette's apartment and there were no words from either of them.
"I broke up with Chloe, but never fully divorced her," Adrien guiltily realized in a thought to himself as he sat beside the lovesick girl. If he told Marinette, would she kick him out of her apartment, or even worse, hate him?
He doubted she would be anything but understanding, but with a possibility to lose such an amazing person who just re-entered his life, could he handle the heartbreak?
She was way more than he remembered her to be when they were kids. Her personality, just Marinette being Marinette was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen.
Their kiss was something different. This was a real kiss, filled with passion and love from within the both of them. Unlike when his first kiss was arranged by his and Chloe's fathers, this seemed to be the first time. He'd fallen in love for the first time, and it was with a dark-haired, blue-eyed girl who held an unimaginably beautiful heart filled with kindness and love.
He was head over heels for this woman, and he didn't want to ruin that with his impulsive action of running away before completing what should've been done.
He had to say something, had to tell her the truth. He didn't feel anything for Chloe, other than friendship and appreciation for her understanding, but it was nothing compared to his love for Marinette Dupain-Cheng.
"Okay, get out you adorable losers," Alya demanded once the car stopped. He hadn't even noticed how long the car ride was.
The amount of dwelling on his mistakes seemed to pass the time pretty well for him, but time passed faster with sleep for Marinette.
"Dude, you're probably going to have to carry her up to her apartment," Alya winked, passing Adrien her set of keys.
Clutching onto a plush bee she'd won earlier in a game from the amusement park, Marinette was peacefully curled in a corner.
"I'll probably have to do that then," Adrien replied sleepily, unbuckling her seatbelt.
"Get her out from the other side. Her side of the car," Alya specified.
He followed along, but forgot an important detail as he opened the car door.
Being leaned up against the side of the car door, Marinette rolled onto the cemented parking lot ground, causing her to awaken suddenly.
"What the heck, Agreste? You were supposed to catch her!" Alya groaned exhaustedly, slamming her face into the steering wheel with frustration.
"BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!" Alya's car horn blared out into the quiet neighborhood from her head's impact with the center of the steering wheel.
"Eh?" Marinette replied from the ground groggily.
"I am so sorry, Marinette. I was supposed to catch you before you hit the floor," Adrien apologized, lifting her exhausted form bridal style.
"That's fine," she mumbled sleepily, waving it off with her hand lazily, slumping her head toward Adrien as she fell back asleep.
Alya laughed to herself as she unlocked the door, after she took the keys back from Adrien, to let them into Mari's apartment.
"Don't drop her again, you dingus," Alya teased as Adrien carried Marinette in.
"I didn't know she was leaning against the car door," Adrien bashfully admitted before placing her on the couch.
"Well, good luck. Also, it was fun having you come with us on our little adventure today. I'm sure Marinette really appreciated it. You're a good person to her, Agreste," Alya stopped before leaving to say.
"Thank you for including me. Marinette is an amazing person. I promise, I won't break her heart," Adrien promised.
"Good, and I believe you. Goodnight," Alya sighed with a grateful smile.
"Goodnight Alya."
