"I can't believe myself! I suck!"
That was the first thing Marinette heard that morning after waking. She yawned and rubbed her eyes before sitting up.
"Why am I on the couch?" She asked her kitten groggily. Tikki purred in response, cuddling against her leg.
Curious as to where that phrase "I suck" came from, Marinette pulled herself up from the couch to investigate. Realizing she still had her outfit on from the day before and that she kinda stunk of B.O., Marinette decided she'd run to her bedroom and take a quick shower before she'd confront Adrien.
Once she got there, she peeled off her old stinky clothes and jumped into the cool, refreshing shower.
Once she was done, she slipped into a comfortably loose blue dress after pulling on her undergarments. She speedily bursted into the kitchen with the intent of figuring out what was wrong.
"Adrien?" Marinette called out. Her attention turned to her dining table where Adrien had his head down under his arms.
"Good morning, Marinette," Adrien mumbled from under his arms sleepily, seemingly downcast.
"Oh, I just kissed you yesterday and totally didn't tell you that Chloe is still my wife because I was too dumb to stay long enough to completely divorce her," he thought to himself.
"Hey, did you get any sleep? Sorry I hogged the couch. I don't even remember how I got there," Marinette smiled apologetically with a short giggle. It still left her in wonder as to why he yelled that he sucked.
"I'm okay. Don't worry... I just... couldn't get any sleep," Adrien admitted sheepishly as he sat up.
Marinette realized his eyes were red from exhaustion, and she felt bad almost immediately. She assumed he didn't sleep because she took his spot.
"No, no, no. You are going to take a nap or go to sleep. You look terrible!" Marinette told him, but once she heard her words, she began to recede, "Well not like terrible, but just tired."
"I'm totally fine! Is there anything you want to do?" Adrien asked guiltily, an unwanted lump forming in his throat. He tried to push it away, but it kept coming back.
"I'm feeling a bit lazy today. I was just thinking we stay in and watch a few movies or something," Marinette replied, smiling at him warmly.
"Here, you go to the couch and I'll go get some breakfast. It's my turn anyways," she added, grabbing the blonde boy's hand and pulling him to sit on the couch.
He shot up, his eyes beginning to fill with tears. He didn't look at her directly, but he tried to insist, "I-I could do it for you!"
"Adrien, you haven't slept! Go sit your butt down on the couch and try to get some sort of sleep. I'll bring breakfast," Marinette gently pushed him to sit back down on the couch. She grabbed a pillow and a blanket from one of her closets and placed them down for him before heading back to the kitchen.
"Marin-" he tried to protest, his voice beginning to tremble in fear, "Marinette... I- umm."
Marinette turned back around, raising a playful eyebrow, but her smirk fell once she noticed that Adrien was actually upset. "Oh Adrien... What's going on?" She sat beside him and pulled him into a hug he felt he clearly didn't deserve, only causing him to completely crumble down what remained of his ability to keep it together. His lips formed into a cringe as fat tears began to roll down his face. This was an unusual sensation for him, being he hadn't been so emotional for so long.
"I'm a terrible person!!" He sobbed, trying to get ahold of himself and stop choking up.
Rubbing his back softly, she pulled away from him to look him in the eyes with an "Are you joking me right now?" look.
"Adrien Agreste, do not tell me you think you are a terrible person. You are anything but terrible! There is nothing you could've done to even become a terrible person. It's not within you, and I know that," Marinette articulated with every ounce of her belief.
Continuing to bawl his eyes out, Adrien struggled to tell her what exactly he had done.
He felt he would lose her. She would hate him for not telling him. Every part of her kindness toward him would likely die off and she'd become very repulsed.
That didn't sound like her, but what if she felt betrayed by his lie? He couldn't stand the thought of hurting her with his dumbness. He didn't think she knew him well enough to know that he was a fake and a liar for keeping a big secret. Once she found the truth, could she still accept him?
"I don't deserve you," Adrien took a shaky breath. To his surprise, she kissed him. He returned it with all of his love, realizing Marinette was his safe place.
Once they broke apart, Marinette wiped at some of his tears. "What are you so scared about?" She asked softly.
"I forgot."
"You didn't forget everything in a matter of seconds, silly!" Marinette giggled sweetly, holding his hands.
He looked at her with a heavy heart, "I forgot to do something a- and..."
Marinette patiently waited for him to recollect his words.
"I f-forgot to divorce her... I completely forgot to divorce Chloe! I'm so sorry! I promise you that I don't have romantic feelings for anyone other than you and I've been so afraid to tell you because I love you and can't even begin to think of what it would be like to lose you and I'm so sorry!!" Adrien confessed everything, tears beginning to roll down his face again. He looked away in shame, almost expecting her to scream or slap him in anger.
"Adrien, I love you too," Marinette confessed, tears beginning to brim in her bright eyes as well as a smile, "How could you think I could ever hate you?"
Hugging him once again, Marinette heard his cries stifle and felt his tears absorb into the material of her dress on her shoulder. She tightened her hug a little more to ensure he felt more secure.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled once more, a beautiful sense of relief flooding throughout him.
"If you really hate being married to Chloe that much, you could always just go back and divorce her," Marinette joked with a giggle, wiping at her own tears.
"I'm going to do it soon," Adrien promised, laughing a little as well as he returned the hug Marinette was giving him.
"Is this why you didn't sleep all night? You were really worried I would hate you?" Marinette asked, gently pulling away to look at the boy.
"Yeah... I'm really sorry," Adrien replied, looking down.
"Don't apologize! You were upset and wanted to run away! I don't blame you at all," Marinette reassured him, holding onto his shoulders softly.
His exhausted green eyes looked up at her bright blue ones and he smiled appreciatively.
"Now get some rest! I'm going to watch a movie and you could watch if you'd like."
Both of them sitting beside one another, Marinette grabbed the remote and playfully pushed Adrien toward the pillow she left for him.
Adrien collapsed onto the pillow without a fight, falling asleep on the couch beside his favorite person comfortably, feeling safe in knowing she wasn't going anywhere.
A/N: In case you didn't notice, I really love couches. They're amazing.
That's why the most "emotional" scene happens on the couch lol.
Hope you guys enjoyed! 😂❤️
And.... guess what? I've already written the next chapter, so you could count on another update being released really soon! 😊
