Valkyrie giggled as she sprinted down the corridor and weaved through busy mages and sorcerers. "Valkyrie Cain bring me back my hat!" Skulduggery called from behind her. Valkyrie squealed and ran faster as she heard him gaining on her. She ran down the corridor to her left and then took a sharp right. She glimpsed back to see skulduggery collide with the corner but then push off of it and kept running.

She ran around the next corner but then stop and leaned on to the wall. Skulduggery ran around the corner and stopped abruptly. "Got you!" He said happily and took his hat and placed it on his head. "Valkyrie?" Skulduggery asked concerned. Valkyrie now had a hand to her head and was taking deep breaths. "Are you ok?" He asked as he walked in front of her and looked at her now pale face. "I don't feel so good" she mumbled and winced. She stumbled backwards and then fell to the ground but luckily skulduggery was there to catch her. He sat her on the floor and put a hand to her forehead and then pulled back as he felt the heat radiating off of her. "Valkyrie? You with me?" Skulduggery asked slowly. "I don't feel well skul" she said and put her head in her hands. "What's wrong?" He asked. "I feel nauseous, faint, hot, cold and dizzy" she said as a single tear ran down her pale cheek.

She took some shaky breaths and then clamped her hand over her mouth. "I'm going to be sick!" She cried and skulduggery jolted up and grabbed Valkyrie. She grabbed his shoulder and he grabbed her under the armpit and then he started walking quickly to the nearest bathrooms.

When they got to the bathroom skulduggery let go and Valkyrie hurried in and shut the door behind her. "I'll be right here!" He called from behind the door. He then leaned against the wall and crossed his arms.

When Valkyrie came back out it was on shaky legs and she was still very pale. "I'm fine now" she said with a not very convincing smile. She stepped out of the doorway and then fell and skulduggery caught her. "You are a horrible liar" he said sadly and Valkyrie whimpered and berried her head in his chest. "I'm taking you home" skulduggery said but Valkyrie shook her head. "What about the meeting?" She asked quietly. "You are ill Val! You can't possibly go to the meeting" he said softly. She shook her head "it's a meeting with the dead men. I'm a dead man so I need to attend. Pretty please?" She whined. "But... Fine! But if you begin to feel like you need to go home you tell me straight away ok?" He asked and Valkyrie nodded "I promise" she said. "Can i walk please?" She asked and skulduggery sighed and set her back on her feet. she wobbled and grabbed on to skulduggery's arm "fine. I'm fine" she said and they began a slow walk to the meeting room.

"Sorry we're late" skulduggery said walking into the room. They all turned to him and then frowned when Valkyrie shuffled in. She looked awful, she was pale and sweating. She was shaking but she still tried to smile. "You ok Valkyrie?" Asked ravel. "Yeah" she said and sank into a chair. "Ok then? Anyway I have some bad news to tell you guys. I gave the soul catcher that held darquesse in to kenspeckle. But it seems he trusted Clarabelle with it and she dropped it. The soul is loose" ravel said grumpily. "We have to find it" ghastly said standing up. "She might come back to Valkyrie or she'll find another vessel that is just as capable of holding her. What I mean is because Valkyries a descendant of the ancients she can handle the power darquesse holds. But other vessels aren't like our dear Valkyrie so darquesse will be able to inhabit someone but only for a few hours. After a little while she would have burned through it and will move to the next one. We need to get her back before she finds a strong enough vessel" ghastly said and then looked proud of himself. "So what we are saying is if we don't get to darquesse before she finds someone we are all absolutely fucked in the ass" Dexter said.

"You are the worst elder ever Dexter!" Saracen said and face palmed. Valkyrie whimpered and berried her head under her arms. "Valkyrie? You need to go home?" Asked skulduggery and she looked up and shook her head. "I'm fine" she said.
"You don't look fine"
"Well I am"
" You sure?"
"83% sure"
"That's a very random number"
"Yup... Oh god!" Valkyrie muttered and grabbed her stomach. "That's it! We are going home you stubborn old mule!" Skulduggery said angrily and picked Valkyrie up and put her on his back. Her arms hung over his shoulders and she lay her head on one of them and whimpered. "Come on" he said softly and then turned to the others. "I'll be here in the morning, she won't. See you guys later" he said and the men nodded and skulduggery walked carefully out of the room.

Valkyrie lay in the bed on her back with a cold, wet cloth on her forehead. There was a glass of water on the bedside table and a box of pills lay next to it. Skulduggery sat on a chair quietly next to the bed and stroked one of his sick partners hands. "You don't look good Val" he muttered. "I don't feel good skul" she muttered back. "Why can't I go to work tomorrow?"
"Because you are sick and need to rest. I'm getting tanith to come over and take care of you"
"But I'll be fine by tomorrow morning"
"No Val. You won't. Please just stay here and rest?"
"But I..."
"No 'buts'. You are going to get better ok? You promise?"
"Fine!" She said and turned her head from him as tears sprung to her eyes. "I'm sorry Valkyrie. I need you to be here so you don't get any worse. Because I need you get better so we can get back to work" skulduggery said leaning closer to her. "But I'm no use to you! I have no magic or anything! I'm a useless mortal" she sobbed. Skulduggery shook his head "no. Kenspeckle said you are an empty vessel. Which means that you can be filled with magic again. But we will have to wait and see. Now you need some sleep" he whispered softly in her ear and she sighed and nodded. He pressed his teeth to her cheek and then got up to leave but Valkyrie grabbed his sleeve. "Can you stay until I fall asleep?" She asked quietly and he nodded "ok" he said happily and sat back down. Valkyrie closed her eyes and then skulduggery began to sing softly which soon after drifted her off to sleep.
