sickness and nightmares

Skulduggery sat on his bed getting ready to mediate but heard a door open and footsteps. "Val?" He asked. "Yup?" She asked. "Nothing" he said.

When Valkyrie went back to her room he lay down on his back and turned his head to look out the window. After a couple of minutes Valkyrie got up again and went back downstairs. Skulduggery ignored this and kept looking out of the window. But it was when she got up the fifth or sixth time did he start to worry. Valkyrie had just left her room so skulduggery decided to follow her.

He crept out of his room and walked down the stairs to see light spilling out from the under the bathroom door. "Val?" He asked and knocked on the door. When there was no reply he opened it to find her leaning over the toilet throwing up. "Are you ok?" He asked and went to hold her hair back for her. "I think I've got food poisoning!" She moaned and sat back. "I'm dying" she said. He chuckled and picked her up In his arms. "Do you feel like your going to be sick anymore?" He asked and she shook her head and put her head on his chest. "Let's get you to bed" he said softly and carried her to her room.

After he lay her down and tucked her in he brought her some water and walked to the doorway. "You gonna be ok?" He asked and Valkyrie smiled and nodded. Skulduggery went back to his room and lay back down but waited a few minutes to make sure Valkyrie wasn't going to get up again and then shut his body down for what he as a skeleton called sleep.

Valkyrie sat up in bed and looked around. Instead of her room having white clean walls there was blood rolling down it. Instead of her wardrobe that had the mirror, where her reflection rested, there was a pile of dust. Then the worst thing was the reflection stood in front of her holding a skull and a dagger with dried blood on it. "Wheres my wardrobe gone? Why aren't you in the mirror?" Valkyrie asked and slipped out of bed. "I got bored" replied the reflection. "Why are you living with skulduggery? How long has that been like that?" Asked the reflection and sat on the bed next to Valkyrie. "Well I guess I haven't used you since I moved here. My parents and Alice are dead. So i've been living here with skulduggery for the past 6 weeks. He's been a real help seeing as he's had the experience with a dead family" Valkyrie said and rubbed her exhausted eyes. "Your parents are dead? Who killed them? Are you ok?" Asked the reflection and placed a hand on Valkyries arm. "Yeah my parents and Alice. We are working on finding the killer and I guess I'm ok. As I said I have skulduggery. Wait! Where is skulduggery?" Valkyrie asked and stood up. "I killed him Val" the reflection said and grinned. "OH MY GOD! WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT?" Valkyrie asked and ran to the door. "He was going to stop darquesse. You love the power and you know you do" said the reflection and started laughing. Valkyrie flung the door open and ran into skulduggery's room to see pieces of bones on the floor. His ribcage stamped on, his arms and legs snapped and his hat gently placed on his bed. She covered her ears with her hands and screamed a scream filled with pure anger and terror. She fell to her knees and began to sob. "DARQUESSE WILL RISE AND CONQUER THE WORLD" yelled the reflection from behind Valkyrie and laughed again.

Before she knew it she was being shaken and then sat up in bed. She looked around the room in horror then looked over to skulduggery. "Val?" He asked. "Your alive" she whispered. Skulduggery tilted his head like someone who was frowning in confusion. "Your alive" she repeated and fell into his arms crying. He rapped his arms around her in a strong embrace and tried to calm her by stroking her hair. But Valkyrie wasn't giving in and just cried harder. "Val what has got you so wound up?" He asked calming and pulled her away so he could look at her face. "She killed you. She thought you would get in the way! So she killed you. You were just pieces of bone" she whispered. "Who?" Asked skulduggery. "The reflection" Valkyrie said and looked over to the mirror.

After he had got her to calm down enough he got her to tell him the whole story. She told it and then looked down at her lap. "Val, it's going to be fine. She won't hurt me and she won't get out of the mirror unless you tap it. Let's destroy it. Ok?" He asked and Valkyrie gave a small smile and nodded. "Can you get back to sleep?" He asked and she nodded and lay down and turned her back to him. "Night" he whispered. "Night" she whispered back and closed her eyes.
