__________

Amaris wasn't sure if she should follow Jon into his office. Edd had followed Jon and the office door was shut. Presumably, the two men were arguing over Jon's decision to leave. She stood in the corridor, hands clenched together as she gnawed on her bottom lip.

There were so many things that needed to be said. I love you. I'm pregnant. Sansa's in Winterfell. So many long conversations awaited them and she didn't know how to begin any of them. Behind the closed door, she could hear yelling but she was unable to make out the words. However, everything was stopped by a loud horn sounding out – signaling approaching riders.

Stupid hope bloomed in Amaris' chest, telling her that the approaching rider could be her father. Trying her best to squash that hope, Amaris walked outside. Her view was blocked somewhat by a few particularly tall wildlings, but she could see the outlines of three people on horses – one young man and two women, though one of the women was so tall and broad she could have been mistaken for a man at a quick glance. The man was young with a round face.

The second woman was the one that caught Amaris' attention. She had long, dark red hair braided down her back and skin as fair as the falling snow. Amaris' vague suspicions on who the woman was were proven correct when Jon ran down the steps and pulled the woman into a crushing hug. That was Sansa Stark.

Knowing there would be time for her to speak with Jon, Amaris fell back into the shadows. Jon had part of his family back. Amaris knew how important that was. She turned towards where Melisandre was standing on one of the roofed bridges and approached her. The two women stood in silence, looking over the courtyard at Castle Black.

"My lady," Davos said, approaching and looking at the older of the two women. His eyes slid to Amaris. "My queen."

Amaris' stomach still churned slightly at the title, but she smiled and nodded anyway.

"Ser Davos," Melisandre said dully.

"Will you stay here at Castle Black?" Davos asked.

"I will do as Jon Snow commands."

Amaris raised her eyebrows in shock. Davos looked at her with furrowed eyebrows before turning back to Melisandre.

"You serve Jon Snow now?"

"He is the prince that was promised."

"I thought that was my father," Amaris commented reproachfully.

Not responding, Melisandre repositioned her cloak and walked down into the courtyard. Amaris and Davos stared at each other for a moment before they walked after Melisandre. The Red Woman was changed – even after having brought a man back to life. Her faith was gone after having witnessed the death of Stannis and his army.

"Melisandre," Amaris called, picking up her pace.

"What happened down there?" Davos asked.

Melisandre turned and sighed.

"There was a battle. Stannis was defeated."

Again, Melisandre attempted to walk away. Scowling, Amaris gripped Melisandre's arm and roughly yanked her closer.

"And Shireen?" Amaris snarled. "What happened to her? How did she die? What happened to the monsters that killed her?"

"I saw what happened," an unfamiliar voice said.

The heads of Davos, Amaris and Melisandre all snapped towards the stranger. Amaris narrowed her eyes at the tall, blonde woman.

"I saw Stannis' forces defeated in the field."
