"There's something you need to see."
Amaris had no intention of wasting time on formalities with Daenerys. She jerked her head towards the cave and pursed her lips, waiting for Daenerys to give indication of agreeing. After a moment's hesitation, Daenerys nodded. Forcing a smile, Amaris turned and led Daenerys to the cave.
"Is this what you wished me to see?" Daenerys asked, staring up at the walls in amazement.
"No," Amaris shook her head. "This is a sight to behold, but there is something far more important further in the cave." She glanced back at Daenerys and lifted the torch higher. "Come."
Silently, Amaris and Daenerys walked through the cave. When Amaris entered the cove, she passed the torch to Daenerys and stood back. She waited silently, hands folded together in front of her stomach, for Daenerys to say something.
"Who did this?"
"The Children of the Forest made the etchings," Amaris said, stepping forward to stand beside Daenerys.
"When?" Daenerys was breathless, moving around the room and examining the etchings.
"A very long time ago," Amaris answered, running her hand over a swirling carving.
"They were right here," Daenerys said in disbelief, wonder rolling off her tongue. "Standing where we're standing. Before there were Targaryens or Starks or Baratheons or Lannisters. Maybe before they were even men."
Amaris glanced at the etchings of the First Men to her right.
"Not quite, your grace," Amaris said. She walked over to where the carvings of the First Men were. "The Children and the First Men were here together."
"Doing what? Fighting each other?"
"Not each other." Amaris shook her head. She softly pulled the torch from Daenerys' hand and raised it to shine light on the Night King. "They fought together. Against a common enemy." She took a deep breath. "They put aside their differences and suspicions and they fought side by side against the Night King and his army. And we're standing here because of it. Don't you see, your grace? We need to do the same if we're going to survive winter."
Daenerys' eyes hardened. "And you say you can't defeat them without my armies and my dragons?"
"That is where my husband stands on the matter," Amaris said. But then, that's not what Daenerys' wanted to hear. Closing her eyes, Amaris took a deep breath. "Your grace, I see things that haven't happened yet. I see things that have happened. I see things that are happening right now. For some reason, The Lord of Light chose me to be his... mouthpiece. I know that you have an important part to play in defeating the Night King."
