Acrostic/Haibun: Unrequited

Underneath the elm on Oak Street sat two young kids―
Never ending friendship is the whisper in the streets,
Round bends and behind doors. Two, James and Julie,
Endearing couple, inseparable friends in a small town
Quietly blowing sweet nothings, picking flower petals.
Unifying words of, "She loves me..." and "He loves me not..."
Interesting stars sparkle in their eyes...puppy love they call it.
Teen years come, and apart they fly from respective nests
Every feather toward another, but secret glances
Directed back speaks of missed opportunities.
In sunlight daisies
Bloom and bees save nectar, as
Sweet honey drips down.
