Helping a Friend Name a Cat
©July 1st 2020, Olan L. Smith
How about Footsy, Tootsie, Tom (if male),
Kitty, Bitty and Witty, Sleek, Meek (if shy),
Uf (for underfoot), Totem if in your dreams.
Bud for (pre-Flower) and Wilt for after.
Ghost, for hidden in plain sight, Haunt for
hanging around the house, or Why, if you're
surprised why you got a cat, Wonder for
knowing, and Yeah, because you got it anyway.
Glitter, for the eyes and Litter for the box you got,
Mousey, for the chasing you're going to do,
and Wow, for the great fun you'll have. Crash,
for the broken things, and Urn, for one you loved
the most, and Epoxy for the glue you'll buy. Purr
for the quiet times, Scratch for the furniture,
and Post, for the one you'll buy. Window, for the
window-time spent watching the birds. Screechy,
for its frightened times, and Me-Me for its many meows.
but of course, Pussy is my favorite, for the soft fur, and
Tickle for your nose as it lays on your face at night.
