Chapter 04 - Disappointment / July - August 1971

After the debut of John in the band, with the presentation at the University of Surrey, the boys traveled to Cornwall, Roger's Mini Cooper and was still the van of the band, taking the equipment. They will do some holiday presentations in Cornwall, including in Truro. We all decided to go to Truro on July 3 and we'll stay there until we get back to London before school starts in September. I went to my parents' house. I missed them a lot.

Freddie, Roger, Brian and John earlier this month went to give presentations in other cities in Cornwall. They rented a cabin in Devoran and made eleven presentations in various towns in Cornwall. They would return to Truro for the birthday of Brian and Roger. Meanwhile, Clare, Vanessa, Sarah and I showed Mary, Chrissy and Veronica the city of Truro and its sights. Mary and Chrissy were staying at the home of Winifred, Roger's mother, and Clare and Veronica were staying at my parents' house. Jill, she did not come with us. She claimed to Roger that she had some things in London to sort out, regarding employment and that she would just go to Truro on Brian and Roger's birthday week. I'm in a lot of heart ache for Roger. I did not dare tell him everything I heard, I'm afraid of my friend's reaction, but, I have to tell him, soon, before I lose all courage. He needs to know who Jill really is.

The days went by ...

On the eighteenth of July the boys arrived in Truro, and on July 19th it was Bri's twenty-fourth birthday. Winifred, Rog's mother, decided to have a little party, with cakes, savory, for Brian. He was very happy. Jill had come to Truro to my disgust. I did not like her before, I thought I was futile, snob, now I dislike her person. She was hugging Rog and it made me more irritated. Everyone was in the kitchen, eating savouries and drinking soda or beer. I stepped away from them, visibly irritated, as I headed toward the living room of the house. I'm taking my juice and eating a salty one when Freddie approaches me.

"Dear Helena, are you all right?" I realized she's a little tense, irritated, "Freddie said, sitting down beside me on the couch.

"Nothing, Freddie, it's okay," I said, eating my salt.

"Nothing's all right, dear Helena. I know you perfectly, as I know all our friends. Something is hurting you. Said Freddie.

"Just distant thinking, Freddie, I'm sorry, but I do not want to talk about it," she said flatly.

"Helena, it has to do with Rog and Jill?" I realized you looked at both of them with disgust, "Freddie said, arching his eyebrows.

"Freddie, is it so hard to hide anything from you?" I laughed. "I'm really angry, I can not stand Jill.

"I do not like her either, dear Helena. No one likes her, to tell you the truth, but our dear Rog is in love with her, "Freddie said.

- You're right. I think I should stop implicating others in dating and get myself a boyfriend for myself, "he said, smiling.

Freddie hugged me and kept me company and talked about the band. The boys had talked to a music producer, who will soon give an answer to them, about Trident Studios and the possibility of them recording the band's first album. Shortly after, Rog enters the living room and sees Freddie and me chatting happily. He approaches.

"What are they talking about?" Can I know? Asked Rog, smiling, sitting down beside me on the sofa.

"No, you can not know. - She said a little rough and Rog looked at me amazed - I mean ...

- Dear Rog, I was commenting with Helena that soon the music producer will contact us about the Trident Studios issue. Freddie smiled, drinking his beer.

"Excuse me, boys, I'm going to talk to the girls," I said to them, and quickly left them, for I am troubled by Rog's presence.
