POV Roger
August 1973
After the release of the band's first album, we have not sold much of the album. For now, the band's album is on 32nd. Position. Selling at the foot of a turtle, but we will not give up. What left Freddie, Brian, Deacy, and I totally resentful, went to musical criticism. They spoke poorly of the album, but in very pejorative ways and this left the boys and me very upset. Some magazines spoke well of the first album, but most wanted to actually end up with the band's image. We were even accused of not being the real musicians of the band and that perhaps we had paid for other musicians to play in our place. It was a flood of accusations. But the boys and I will know how to face all this. Trident Studios paid an advertiser to work with the band to help us and maybe take us on some TV shows and interview interviews for teen magazines. We are waiting for the next events.
Meanwhile, on the first of August, on Wednesday, Freddie, Brian, Deacy and I went back into the studio at Trident Studios and started recording the band's second album. We have no time to lose. The boys and I have already written and composed the songs for this album. We will have a month to record all the tracks. Starting in September, we will begin to make small appearances in London pubs, as well as in universities, and Trident is seeing other cities that Queen can introduce herself to.
This time, we got a decent time to record our album: Monday to Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. And on Saturdays from eight to noon. Meanwhile, once a week night, Wednesday night at nine o'clock, I took part in the go-karting course. I started the course two weeks ago. I have enjoyed the lessons. I realize Brian is trying to get close to me, to talk, but there's no way. As much as I miss the great friendship I had with Brian, nothing else will be the same. I only talk with him what is necessary in the recordings of the album. There is no more brotherhood, complicity of friends. I got a lot closer to Freddie and Deacy. Deacy became a great friend to me. We give thanks, we make jokes and we look forward to the beginning of the Master's degree. Who would have thought I would do a Masters in Molecular Biology. The MSc lasts for two years. I hope in two years to be a Rock Star. If I can get what I want, I will close the Master's studies.
August 15, 1973. Wednesday. Today the recordings of the album were tense. Brian and I argued.
"This song of yours, The Loser in the End, which we recorded today is ridiculous," said Brian, laughing sarcastically.
"Your song Some Day One Day, which is ridiculous," I told him shrieking.
- Enough, both of them, damn it! We have to maintain the harmony of the recordings of the band, until the end of the month we have to finish the recordings. We can not keep fighting for idiocy. The two songs are incredible, "Deacy said, losing his temper.
Brian, Freddie and I looked at Deacy, who was annoyed.
- I'm looking at myself, why? I get angry too. No more arguments, boys, we have a lot of work to do yet, "Deacy said.
On the fifteenth at night, in the practical kart class. I was in the kart with the teacher, who took me to a kart and gave me some instructions. I put on the pilot's suit as well as gloves and the helmet. Because my hair is long, it shows, even with the helmet. I greeted my instructor and got into the kart. I started the vehicle and accelerated the kart, quickly, on the big lane. As I accelerated the go-cart, I thought of Helena, her beautiful look, her beautiful face, her fleshy lips. I closed my eyes and the image of her was in front of me. I accelerated faster and faster. It was a way for me to vent all my anger, all my grief. I was changing gears quickly and just thinking about Helena ... I ran with the go-cart for half an hour. There were other students running too. Six more, with me. I would have to be in the top three. Quickly, I see the top three in front of me. I pass what is in third place and I assume its place. I accelerate the vehicle more, almost skidding, but, I can surpass the second place. More ahead, I see the big finish line. The first place who wins is another student. I get second. Until I did well, for those who are at the beginning of the course.
