Chapter 47 - Time / December 1974

POV Brian

I had followed Helen and Roger. They were very close. I know Roger is my friend, a brother to me, but, it hurts to see him with Helena, my great love. They were kissing.

They stopped the kiss, at the tree house. Helena looked at me in alarm.

"Everyone's looking for them, it's getting dark." He said without emotion.

I was completely annoyed, but I will not show it, because I do not want to be confused with Helena and Roger, the two most important people in my life.

Roger and Helena were a little embarrassed.

- Come on, Lena? Said Rog, kissing her cheek.

"Come on," Lena said.

The three of us left the tree house and walked in silence, watching the waves of the sea breaking. I was thoughtful, I believe Helena does not love me as I thought. I think she really loves Roger. Now she's Miss Universe, but when her reign of Miss ends, she'll have to decide.

Ten minutes later walking, we arrived at the beach house.

"Guys, I'll get ready," Helena said simply. "You must do the same. Soon, we will begin the New Year's Eve celebrations.

Helena enters the house and I stand on the porch, breathing in the icy air.

"Will not you come in, Bri?" Said Rog, approaching me and lighting a cigarette.

"I'm going to stay here a bit, Rog," he said, looking up at the sky. "And you should quit smoking that crap." - He said looking at him - Cigarette does a terrible bad health, you know it, already was university student of Biology.

"I swear I'm trying to quit this damn vice, but I can not," Roger said, puffing on his cigarette, staring at me.

I remained silent, staring at the great sea. Rog smoked in silence too, watching me, until some time later, he said,

"I hate it when you're silent like that, by chance, you're not going to swear at me, yell at me, fight?" I prefer it when you do that to your tumultuous silence, "said Roger, finishing smoking.

- I have nothing to say. He said a little harshly.

Roger looked at me startled and then finished his cigarette.

"I'm sorry, I'm not going to bother you any more," Rog said.

- Rog, wait. Not my brother, "he said in annoyance.

Rog came back and looked at me.

"You can say you're very upset with me and Helena, tell me the truth, Bri. You can trust me, "Roger said.

"I confess that I am, Rog, because I love Helena just as you love her. Hell, fate is being very unfair to us. Two friends, like brothers, loving the same woman. This should not happen to us, "he said flatly.

"Bri, be calm, I kissed Helena." Roger said.

"But," she returned. I think she finally decided who to stay with after the reign of Miss Universe, "he said thoughtfully.

"Bri, I kissed Helena," she replied, "because you're attracted to me, not because you love me. Dude, she still has doubts, who she really loves, whether it's you or me, so do not feel defeated you still have chances with her - said sad Roger. 

"Anyway, Bri, brother, I swear to you: our friendship will remain, regardless of Helena's choice, you promise?

"I promise, Rog, I promise our friendship will remain," I told my friend, hugging him tightly.

Rog and I hugged each other tightly and wept in each other's arms because of Helena. How long will we live this dilemma? Until when? Rog and I will not press Helena now, but by the time she finishes her reign of Miss Universe, she will have to choose.

POV Helena

I told the girls what had happened, that Roger kissed me and I responded and Bri caught us.

"You still do not know who you really love, Helena?" Asked Veronica.

"Actually, my heart slowly begins to give true signs of who I love, but it's still early days. I'll keep my Miss Universe agenda. Then I will resolve this dilemma. The only thing I do not admit is Bri and Rog fighting over me. After all, I want them to remain friends, "she said thoughtfully.

"They said they'd be friends forever, Helena," Clare said, sitting down beside me.

"I know, and I expect them to keep the word," she said flatly.

A short time later, the New Year's Eve celebrations started and at the time of the turn, we all greet each other and toast them with champagne. The last to greet me was Rog and finally Bri.

Rog looked at Bri and understood that the guitarist wanted to talk to me alone. Rog looked at us and walked away in silence.

I looked at Bri. Bri kissed my cheek in the corner of his mouth. Then he kissed my lips, quickly.

"I know you still have doubts, Helena. Rog and I talk and it's all right between us. We remain friends, but soon you will have to make up your mind. You have a few more months, just. - say for me.

"I know, Bri," she said, stroking his face and hair. In July, at the end of my reign of Miss Universe, I will have to decide. You're so charming, so sensitive, cute.

I run my hand through his hair and he smiles.

"Your hair is soft and fluffy, I love getting caught in your curls." I smiled at him. "I love you, Bri, I love you very much. I should only love you. Are you a gentleman, such a sensitive, romantic, affectionate young man, do you combine more with me than Rog knew? Well, I am sensitive, romantic, affectionate as you are, but unfortunately, we do not send in the heart and I still have doubts.

"Helena, do not worry, you'll still have plenty of time to think," Bri said, hugging me tightly. "What matters is the love I feel for you, that regardless of your choice, the love I feel for you will always be in my heart. I do not forget the beautiful words about love you said in the Miss Universe pageant. By your happiness, I am able to accept that you stay with Rog or another boy, but, know that my heart will always be yours, for eternity. - He smiled.

I smiled back and hugged him tightly and kissed him on the cheek. I will still have some time, but soon I will have to decide between the two friends, the two brothers.
