Y/n's POV

I trotted alongside Vanoss through the market, pretending to be interested in the small, useless items lining up every stall. I was thinking on a way to distract him, something to lower us guard, or take his eye off me for even the smallest second, just to prove to him that I wouldn't be kidnapped. His eyes were burning into my back, and I imagined him with lazer eyes.

I had soon realised I hadn't seen his face whatsoever, and the thought of it nagged at me. What if everytime he died, he paid someone else to be in his place as Vanoss? And is Vanoss's name really 'Vanoss'? These questions clawed at my flipped and turned over brain, yearning for a single answer.

"Hey, Vanoss?" I turned around and stopped walking. "Mmmhmm?" He stared into my soul. "Uh... is... is Vanoss r-really your name?" I stammered, sweat running down the crook of my neck. I felt his menacing stare dig into my heart and tear it out, it was terrifying.

"Nope." He stated calmly. "Okay." I nodded, scared of his expression. Even though I couldn't see it, I imagined furrowed brows above glaring eyes, throwing daggers into my own e/c orbs. I shuddered and continued walking, picking up my pace.

I winded through stalls, eyeing a potion one. I decided to travel over and take a few potion ingredients, then wondering if father would let me take witchery classes. "Hi." The cloaked man smiled. I waved, looking through the prices. "I'll have... some snapdragon flowers, and some bugloss. Do you happen to have wine and garlic around? I'll take some of that, too. Oh! And the angelica, and thyme." I watched him claw through the crates and handed everything to me in a small paper bag. "Seventy-three Kutch." He smiled, seeing me hand over twenty seven extra. "Keep the change." I grinned, walking away.

"That's a lot of useless junk." Vanoss muttered. I rolled my eyes and ignored him. Since the... argument, he's been incredibly sour toward me. I brushed it off as him getting back at me for what I had done, but part of me died inside everytime he muttered inaudibly, making me think he was making narcissistic comments about me secretly. I didn't nag him about it in fear of being yelled at.

"Without the crown, you look like an average person." Someone smirked at me. "Aren't I already?" I hissed back. I ignored the snarky comment and walked over to the pathway into the woods and to Jack's home. A hand gripped my shoulder before I took a single step onto the worn down path, it of course being my excuse of a guardian.

"Don't go in there. It's too dangerous." He murmured. "Hanging out with me is dangerous." I brushed his hand away and tried to walk into the damp, untamed woods when he grasped my wrist tightly. "And how's that dangerous?" He growled, glaring into my head. "I could have you beheaded, now let me go before I claim you're mugging me." I snarled, glaring my e/c eyes back into the shadows covering his face.

He let go of my wrist and I sighed, walking into the forest. I didn't hear his usual patter of his light feet, but I ignored it again. The crunching under my wet boots were enough to banish the deafening silence. The twitter of cheerful birds silenced, replaced by the throbbing of my beating heart. I heard a crackle to the left of me, but when I glanced in the direction it was just a shadow.

I refused to believe somebody was following me. It was most likely Vanoss trying to get under my skin, anyway. I kept my solid, brave expression even though I was crying inside. The walls I had built out of confidence were being shot down by fear. I shivered as a howl was carried on the harsh wind blowing me off my feet.

I tred through the woods, feeling lost. Wasn't this the way to Jack's hut? I saw no light anymore aside from the splinters of gold and blue from the gaps between trees, but even that soon vanished. The caws of eerie crows startled me, and I almost dropped my brave facade. I furrowed my brows and pushed the frightening sounds out of my ears, the thoughts of being kidnapped soon replaced by kittens and puppies and rainbows. 'Think positive...' I urged myself on.

Despite the new sounds of thundering footsteps behind me, I stayed strong. I figured it was Vanoss's worrying chase following me, but I was wrong. Rough, burly hands encased my arms and made my grip on my items tighten. I screamed as a blade was pressed to my neck.

"Shut it, girly." A deep voice hissed. "What's in the bag, dear?" A lady approached, cloaked in a dark cloak. "N-nothing." I stammered, tightening my hold on my bag. "I don't think it's nothing if you're LYING to us for it." She seethed. I whimpered. "You're lucky were the ones mugging you, princess." The man hissed. Something clicked inside my mind, and I knew who these people were.

"You... you're the guys from the witchery stores!" I gasped. The lady only smirked. "Yep, you guessed it." She chuckled, twirling the brown strands of hair around her fingers. "Someone will come get you guys!" I yelled. "They won't need to, you'll be dead already." She mused. "Nobody will find you, they won't suspect anything of us." The man pressed the knife deeper into my neck.

"What do you mean? Vanoss will go straight for you guys!" I growled. "Oh, it's not so simple to track us down." The girl clicked her tongue. "What?" I questioned. "You wouldn't understand, it's witchcraft after all!" The lady cackled. "Anyway, M. Kill her." She tossed her hand. "We could use her." He sighed. "What for? She's as useless as a stone!" She yelled.

"We could.... blackmail her father?" He seemed unsure of his response. "... Okay." She sighed. "Let's go, then." She pulled a dark midnight purple from behind her cloak and tossed it carelessly, making a wormhole in the multiverse. The man let me breathe, only to shove me into the black hole. I dropped my stuff on accident, spilling my stuff everywhere. "Vanoss!" I yelled before the wormhole closed. I hope he finds me...
