Chapter Six

***Cameron's POV***

I heard someone get up, and I opened my eyes, looking over at the clock.

4:19 a.m.

What the hell? Who would be up now?

I sat up, and made out a small figure in the dark. I knew it was Lexi once I saw her silhouette, and her almost tripping and mumbling curses under her breath.

"Lex?" I mumbled. She froze.

"Uh, yeah?"

"What are you doing up at like 4:20 in the morning?" I asked, running a hand through my messy hair.

"Oh, I-uh, I left my phone-" She stopped herself, then sighed. "Oh, forget it. I just couldn't sleep, ok?" She whispered, trying not to wake anyone else up, I'm guessing.

"Come here." I said before I could even process it. She hesitantly came over, and sat on the edge of the bed.

"Lex, I don't bite." I whispered and laid back down. She laid down and inched closer to me. I grabbed her waist and pulled her towards me, holding her tightly. I felt her relax under my grip, and smiled a bit.

"Thanks." She whispered, slowly falling asleep. I soon, too, fell asleep with Lexi in my arms.

***Lexi's POV***

I squinted because of the bright light pouring into the room and looked around. Flashes of what happened last night came flooding back.

I sat up and looked around. Where was Cam?

"LEXI IF YOU ARE NOT UP NOW WE WILL BE LATE!" Cameron screamed and emerged from the bathroom, walking towards me.

"Huh?" I asked with sleep filling my voice.

"Magcon is in 30 minutes, babe." He said, and leaned over to kiss my cheek. I shoved him off and ran into the bathroom. I shut and locked the door.

"WHY DIDN'T YOU WAKE ME UP SOONER?" I yelled, stripping my clothes and hopping into the shower. I heard him say something, but couldn't make out what it was over the water.

After showering, I quickly braided my hair into a messy side braid, letting a few pieces frame my face. I threw on a pair of white shorts and a lose, light blue tank-top with a little lace along the bottom. I quickly threw on my white hightop converse, and ran back into the bathroom. I put on a little concealer and mascarra, not having time for anything else. I was done in 15 minutes.

"DONE!" I screamed, grabbing my phone. Cam looked up at me, surprised.

"Nice timing, we shouldn't be late. Let's go." Cameron stood up and grabbed my arm, pulling me down the hallway to the elevator. Were we ok now?

***Lexi's POV***

After Magcon, I went to the beach. I needed some time to think.

What even happened with Cameron and I? Did I do something? Are we ok now?

I desperately tried to think of something I could have done wrong, but came up short.

The soft waves gently crashed on my feet, and the sand was in between my toes. I took off my converse a while ago, and held them in my hand. I looked out to watch the sun setting while walking.

Not paying attention, I bumped into a hard chest and stumbled back.

"Oh! I'm sorry-" I looked up and saw similar warm brown eyes, "Cam?"

"Oh, hi, Lex. Uh, sorry I wasn't watching where I was going." He said awkwardly, and I noticed his hand holding my arm, probably to keep me from falling. He noticed, too, and moved his hand away.

"N-no. It was my fault." I said.

"Mind if I join you?" Cameron asked, with his deep brown eyes captured in mine.

"No." I said and smiled. We started walking in silence. I remembered all of the questions I had before, and spit one out before I could stop myself.

"What happened with us?"

Cameron stopped walking, causing me to stop as well, "what are you talking about?"

"Us. What happened, Cam? A couple days back you got so distant and stopped talking to me. What did I do wrong?" I whispered the last part, and Cameron's eyes softened.

"Just personal stuff." He shrugged.

"You can tell me." I said, and he sighed. Cameron looked out at the sunset and thought for a couple of minutes. He returned his gaze and we locked eyes.

"I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me. We were together for a year, and she got with another guy while I was gone," Cameron sat down on the sand in frustation, and I sat next to him, "it makes you feel like you're just not good enough."

"Cam, I know how you feel. I dated a guy a while back and he cheated on me with my best friend. I was devistated. It was so bad, Maddy and Hailey thought I died," He chuckled at the last part and I cracked a smile. "It happens to everyone, heartbreak sucks. Sometimes you just have to take a chance and jump. All you can do is hope someone is there to catch you. What's life without a risk?"

Cameron ran a hand through his hair. "Have you ever felt so scared of what's going to happen next, that you don't do anything to make it happen?" He asked.

"Yes, but you can't fly unless you let yourself fall." I said.

Cameron cracked a smile and chuckled, "did you just quote Justin Bieber?"

I laughed and looked out into the ocean. "Maybe."

After a while of silence, Cam spoke up, "thank you."

I looked at him, and nodded.
