[Forty Two]

***Lexi's POV***

I sat up in the uncomfortable hospital bed, playing with my bracelet. I heard the door open, and I looked up.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Taylor said, sitting on the edge of my bed.

"I didn't want anyone to worry about me." I said quietly. Taylor sighed.

"I guess that makes sense. How are you?"

"I'm alright." I said.

"I wish I could have been here for you sooner, Lex." He says, regret filling his eyes.

"Taylor, I'm ok. Really." I said, smiling at him.

"Are you going to take the surgery?" He asked.

"I-"

"Lexi Summers? We will be taking you in for surgery now." A nurse said, and she noticed Taylor, "I'll give you a minute." She said, closing the door.

I looked up at Taylor with tears filling my eyes.

"You'll be ok. I promise." He said, kissing the back of my hand. I nodded.

"What can we say instead of goodbye?" I said quietly, holding onto his hand as if it's the only thing I have left.

"How about see you later?" He whispered, smiling a sad smile.

"See you later, Taylor. I love you." I said quietly, and he leaned down to kiss my cheek.

"I love you, too." He said, and the nurse came back in.

"Oh, if I, um, I don't make it..." I whispered, "Tell Cameron I love him, ok?" I said quietly, and he nodded. I dropped his hand as the nurse wheeled me out of the room, down the hall, and into surgery.

"You'll be alright, hun. I feel it." The nurse said, smiling. She put an oxygen mask over my mouth and nose, and I slightly nodded. In a few seconds, my vision clouded over with black, and that was the last thing I remembered.

***Taylor's POV***

I walked back out into the waiting room, and Cameron shot up once he saw me.

"They just took her in for surgery." I said, sitting in the plastic chair next to him. Cameron sat back down.

"Do you think she'll make it?" I suddenly asked, causing Cameron to look at me.

"Yeah. I do." He said confidentially. I nodded slightly, so he knew I agreed.

Lexi is my best friend, I can't believe that I didn't know about her cancer. Magcon was in two days, and we were going to Orlando, Florida. If Lexi wouldn't be able to go, I would stay with her.

The surgery would last about 4-6 hours, and Lexi would be ok. I know she would. I can't lose my best friend.

Am I just convincing myself that she will be ok, though?
