Chapter Thirty Nine

[Thirty Nine]

***Cameron's POV***

"I'm dying, Cameron." Lexi choked out, and I studied her face.

"You're..."

"Yeah. I'm dying." She said quietly, and a tear escaped her eye. I cupped her cheek, and wiped it away with my thumb.

"How?" I whispered, trying to process it all.

"I have cancer. The doctors said that they caught it early, and the treatment should work. I was diagnosed a week before Magcon." She said.

"Does Maddy and Hailey know?" I asked.

"No, only Mike and my dad." Lexi said.

I was sitting next to the girl that I managed to fall in love with, who just told me she had cancer. I held her hand tightly, almost as if she would be taken away from me.

"I don't care." I said after a few minutes of silence. Lexi turned her head to look at me, confusion in her eyes.

"I don't care that you have cancer. I want to spend these last two days with you, alright? I know you want to spend them with me, too." I said, and she smiled a sad smile.

"You still want to spend these last two days with me?" She asked, and I nodded.

She smiled, and I stood up, extending out my hand for her. She took it, and I helped her stand up. I love this girl, and I promised that she would fall in love with me again. I never break a promise.
