[Forty One]

***Lexi's POV***

A steady beeping rhythm was the only thing I could hear. I was wearing an uncomfortable piece of clothing that I didn't have on before. It felt oddly familiar, almost as if...

I quickly fluttered open my eyes, and squinted due to the bright light. I looked around, and sighed.

"Lexi?" A voice asked, and I looked over to see Mike sitting in a chair.

"Hi." I said, my voice a little raspy.

"Hey. You alright?" He asked, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"I guess so. Why am I in the hospital again?" I asked, and Mike opened his mouth to say something, but my dad and the doctor walked in.

"Oh, good, you're awake." The doctor said, walking over to me.

"Are you aware of what happened?" He asked, and I shook my head.

"Alright. You were sleeping, and you suddenly stopped breathing. Your friend, Cameron I believe, called 911. He saved your life." The doctor said, and I cracked a small smile.

"So, why did she stop breathing?" My dad asked.

"Well, Lexi just fainted, but while she was sleeping, basically. If it wasn't caught in time, you could have died. Fortunately, Cameron called as soon as it happened, so you were alright." The doctor said.

"Where is he?" I asked quietly.

"The waiting room, I believe. Before I send him in, though, I have some news about your cancer." The doctor said, setting down the chart. I looked up at Mike, then my dad, who just looked down at me.

"I'll leave you two alone." Mike said, getting up. He walked outside to where my dad was talking to the doctor.

"Thank you." I said quietly, weakly taking Cam's hand in mine.

"For what?" He asked, rubbing small circles with his thumb on the back of my hand.

"Saving my life." I said, looking up into his deep, brown eyes.

"I wasn't going to let the girl I love just die on me." He said, and I giggled.

We sat in silence for a while, and words started tumbling out of my mouth before I could stop them.

"They gave me news about my cancer." I said, and Cameron's eyes held concern.

"The doctor said that he could preform surgery, and they can get it all out." I said, and Cam's face light up.

"That's amazing Lexi." He said.

"I have a 50% chance of surviving, and 50% chance of dying." I said quietly.

Cameron studied my face, and spoke slowly.

"Well, what are you going to do?" He asked.

"I don't know. Can, um, can you do me a favor?" I asked, and he nodded.

"Call the guys and tell them what's going on, please. Maddy and Hailey, too." I said quietly.

"Are you sure? I mean, we go to Magcon in two days." He said, and I nodded.

"I'm sure." I said, and he nodded. My dad walked in with Mike, and Cameron got up to call them.

"I want to take the surgery." I said as soon as the door shut.

"Lexi, are you sure?" Mike asked.

"It's either 100% chance of dying, or a 50% chance of living. What would you take?" I asked, looking up at him.

"I'll tell the doctor." My dad said quietly, standing up and walking out of my room.
