[Twenty Six]

***Lexi's POV***

Two Days Later:

"Ow." I mumbled under my breath. I slowly sat up from my position on the floor, from falling out of bed.

I dragged myself towards the bathroom, and saw my dress hanging on my closet door.

I sighed, thinking about Lily's wedding today. It was 10:00 now, so I had an hour to get ready before Maddy picked me up.

I stripped out of my pajamas, and hopped into the shower, doing my normal routine.

15 minutes later, I was in a t-shirt and shorts. I never put on my actual outfit while I get ready, and I don't really know why.

I blowed out my hair until it was 100% dry, and plugged in my curling iorn. I quickly brushed my hair, waiting for it to heat up.

It took me about 15 minutes to curl my hair, achieving soft, lose curls. My hair ended about two inches below my shoulder blades, a little shorter than usual. I applied a little concealer, mascara, and eyeliner.

By the time I finished, it was 10:45, and Maddy was picking me up at 11. I slipped on the dress, and put on my black pumps. I gently put on the silver necklace Mike got me for my birthday last year, and the silver charm bracelet my mom gave me before she passed away. She gave it to me with no charms on it, only a little medallion with my initals, so I kept it that way.

Maddy walked into my room, at exactly 11, because she had a key. I was looking in my full-length mirror, and saw her in the background.

"You look beautiful, Lexi." She said, and I briefly smiled.

"You too." I said, turning around. I grabbed my clutch off of my desk, and put my phone inside.

"You're mom would be proud of you, you know." She said gently, looking at my bracelet.

"I hope so." I said quietly, adjusting it on my wrist. "Ready?" I said, taking a deep breath. She nodded, and we walked outside to her car.

*

"You alright?" Maddy asked from the driver's seat.

"Yeah, it's just that I broke up with Andrew yesterday." I said, changing the radio station. She glanced at me, then turned her attention back to the road.

"Lexi, was it because of-"

"No, it wasn't because of you guys. We just weren't right for each other, that's all." I said quietly, settling on a station.

Human by Christina Perri started playing, and I sat back in my seat, taking in the lyrics.

'...I can do it,
I can do it,
I can do it,
But I'm only human,
And I bleed when I fall down,
I'm only human,
And I crash and I break down,
Words in my head,
Knives in my heart,
You build me up and then I fall apart,
'Cause I'm only human...'

"That was lovely." Taylor said, boredom threading his words. I rolled my eyes, standing up with everyone else.

"At least it wasn't long." I whispered to him, and he chuckled. He had on a black suit, with a black tie. He looked pretty good, actually.

I started walking towards the cocktail area with Taylor. We were a couple feet away from everyone, when I brought up Andrew.

"Andrew and I broke up. You were right, we weren't meant to be anything more than friends." I said, and Taylor stopped me.

"Was it because of what I said, or-" He started, and I shook my head.

"No, Taylor. If anything, you helped me. Thanks." I smiled, and he nodded. We caught up with everyone, and there was a lot of hugging.

"Someone cleans up well." Jack G said, and I giggled.

"You do, too." I said, and he pulled me in for another bear-hug. I missed these.

"So, when's the party gunna start?" Taylor asked Hailey, who rolled her eyes. Everyone soon got into their own conversation, and Cam walked over to me.

"You look beautiful." He said, and I felt heat rise to my cheeks.

"Thanks. You're not too bad yourself." I said, and he cracked a smile. His black suit and black tie looked similar to Taylor's, but much better on him.

"Thanks. How's, uh, Andrew?" He hesitantly asked.

"We broke up yesterday." I simply said, and he nodded slightly, putting his hands into his pockets.

"Oh. Sorry." Cam said, and I nodded, letting him know it's alright.

"Nice bracelet." He said, after a couple seconds of silence, tilting his chin up towards it.

"Thanks, my mom gave it to me." I said, and his face fell a little.

"It's alright, Cam. You didn't know. Bringing her up won't break me, you know." I said gently, and he looked at me with warm, brown eyes.

"Still." Cameron said, and we started walking towards a garden not far from the cocktail area. It was an outdoor wedding, so we weren't being rude.

"Today, um, today was her birthday." I said quietly, looking out at the view. The sun was slowly dipping below the trees, and rays of sunshine peaked through the garden. It was breathtaking.

"I bet she's proud of you, Lexi." He said, with sincere in his voice.

I chuckled, "I just wish I knew her more. Heard her voice one more time, and told her that I loved her more often." I said, looking down, a single tear escaping.

"Wishing that you could hug her one more time, or done something to change what happened. I know." He gently said, lifting up my chin towards him. He wiped away the tear with his thumb.

"Don't cry. You're too pretty to cry." He whispered.

The sky let out a loud rumble, and little droplets came down. A couple turned into many, and it soon started pouring. Everyone ran inside, but we didn't move a muscle.

My dress was soaked, and water dripped down my face. My hair was dripping wet, and so was Cam's.

"You can get through it." He said, louder than before, so he could be heard over the rain. I stood, frozen, listening to his every word.

"You know, I haven't really realized this until you were with Andrew. Maybe it was watching you love someone else, but it burned my heart, and I really didn't know why. Maybe it was the way he made you smile, or how he made you happy. Maybe I just wanted to be yours. Maybe I still do, but as I stand here with you, in the pouring rain, I realize that I've fallen for you. I've fallen for your laugh, which is utterly contagious. I've fallen for your smile, which makes me giddy for no reason at all. I've fallen for our late night talks, where 1 a.m arrived too quickly. I've fallen for our jokes, which I'll remember days and burst out laughing. I've fallen for how you can make my day better, even if I've wanted to cry a minute before. I've fallen for every second I get to spend with you, even if every second leaves me wanting more. I've fallen for you. I want you to call me yours, and I want you to love me, as much as I love you, Lexi." He said, laying it all out in the open.

I stepped closer to Cameron, looking up into his deep brown eyes, that held relief. There wasn't a trace of lies in his words, and I knew he meant everything. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and kissed him. He snaked his arms around my waist, kissing me back, and my stomach did flips. This kiss was nothing compared to ones with Andrew. It was filled with passion, honesty, and love.

I realize now, that as I stand kissing this Magcon boy in the pouring rain, I've fallen just as hard, just as fast, and just as easily as him.
