Noah flew towards the location of his target. Noah did not want to kill anyone, especially someone he had never met and had no anger towards. But while he had no choice, he did have a plan. Arriving at a coffee house almost a hundred miles away from his home, he landed where nobody would see him, around the corner of the building on an empty street side. Walking into plain sight, he made his way for the door.
Walking through the glass doors, Noah was already scanning the faces of the people around him. He sat down at a table and continued to look around. The place was filled with people, all busy doing something. Some were reading, some were typing on computers, and some were talking to other people. Noah spotted his target near some guys hitting the keys on some laptops ferociously, most likely playing some kind of game.
Noah ordered a coffee, to blend in, and moved to a table closer to the man. The boys playing their games looked like they were making a lot of noise, but there was almost no sound coming from them. Their mouths moved as if they were screaming but their voices were barely above a whisper. Noticing this, Noah confirmed his suspicions. He stood up and took the seat across from the target.
"Hello" Noah tried to say, sounding cheerful and friendly, but his voice was so quiet he couldn't hear it. The man held up a finger behind the book to signal for a moment. He was reading Taxes for Dummies which Noah found odd until he remembered Mark saying that this guy was just becoming normal again for the first time in a long time. For what was definitely longer than a moment, the man read his book and Noah stared at the cover, until finally he put it down with his finger saving his page.
"I suppose you have been sent to retrieve me then? Judging by the fact that you haven't freaked out about not being able to speak and you started talking to me rather than any other lonely reader in this place."
Noah attempted to speak again but to no avail.
"You see, though, I don't want to go back. I'm enjoying myself here. I mean, money is an issue and I don't have anywhere to live but this is better than that shack they stuck me in before. I'll find a job soon, I don't want help from some...new recruit... So just be on your way." He motioned for him to leave but Noah just sat across from him, trying to speak. "Fine, fine, what is it?"
Noah waited for a moment, partially because he didn't know if he could speak now, partially because he didn't know what to say. "Um..." His voice was back to normal. "I'm not here to get you. I was sent to...um...kill you." The man stood up, surprised. "But I'm not going to!" Noah insisted, trying to get the man back in his seat.
He didn't sit down though. He stared at Noah from his standing position. "If you think you can trick me you are a fool, and if you think you can kill me than you are a dunce. So which is it, fool or dunce?"
"I...neither. I wanted to help you. I don't want to kill anyone."
The man didn't sit down. "How can I believe you? There is to much at risk."
"Please!" Noah was desperate. He didn't want to have to do anything to this guy, but he knew that he would have to if the man wouldn't listen. "Just sit down, or stand up, but just listen to me. You can send me away after...but...just listen."
The man didn't move, but that also meant that he wasn't walking away, which to Noah meant that he should get talking quickly.
...
Hundreds of miles away, Mark hovered in the air. His eyes were closed and his mind was blank. He had given everyone the day off to do whatever they wanted, for now. He hung up there for hours, meditating. Without warning, Mark opened his eyes and flew off in the distance. He traveled the hundreds of miles in under a minute.
...
Noah was almost done explaining his plan to hide the man when the wall behind him exploded. The rubble hit Noah's energy field, that always surrounded his body now, and he turned to see who had caused the disruption. Mark hovered above the doorway. Everyone that was in the coffee shop was thrown to the ground, some knocked unconscious.
"Noah," Mark's voice boomed. "You have not completed your task. You require more of a push, and I have got it. This man has done more than we were told. He killed to get out. Destroyed great men, ripped them apart piece by piece. He needs to be stopped now before he kills another!"
Noah turned back to the man who sent a large sonic boom towards Noah. Noah created an energy field that took the impact but was shattered by the vibrations. Noah looked straight towards the man who was preparing another blast. Noah reached his hand towards him and began walking towards him.
Another sonic boom flew towards Noah, but he deflected it easily, walking closer. Desperately, the man sent another sonic boom, also deflected easily. Realizing that it wasn't working, he sent boom after boom in attempt to slow him down to give him time to think. Noah approached with no disruption to his pace, his arm outstretched still, his hand reaching towards the man.
Ten feet between them, the man threw his arms towards Noah. Noah felt his ears pop and a loud, high pitch, noise filled his hearing. He stopped for only a moment, concentrating on his energy field to strengthen it. It was thick enough to be seen as what looked like a thick shell around Noah now, and it was so strong that everything was silent to Noah.
Finding his pace, he arrived at the man, who's back was against the wall. Noah held his hand directly in front of the man's throat and paused. He stared directly into the man's eyes and waited. He saw fear, a darkness in the man's pupils that he had never seen before. Then, a controlled lightning bolt like a rod of light flew from Noah's palm and threw the man's throat. Before the man could crumble, Noah grabbed him around the throat, keeping him up.
Noah continued to stare into the man's eyes, watching as the fear grew, then sank into an abyss. He felt the energy from the man get absorbed into his own body. So much energy, he hadn't had this much contained before. He allowed the man to fall and he turned towards Mark, his thick field still on without him realizing it.
"Mark!" He boomed, the field shattering around him. "We need to talk."
