Dan sat there staring at the wall in front of him. Kyle was sleeping soundly by his side. Kyle had made sure that Dan was asleep before he fell asleep, and Dan did fall asleep. But that didn't stop him from waking up again.

He got up and wandered into the kitchen. It was dark but not dark enough so Dan couldn't see what he was doing. He didn't even know what he was doing, he didn't need anything...

He just felt it was right.

He went round examining everything in the kitchen. All the familiar items. He came across some bills and letters stacked in a neat pile that he just left there. Some pens and scrap bits of paper that Kyle insists they keep because they have cute little drawings of cats on that Dan drew. He smiled as he saw these. It reminded him of how much he really loves Kyle. He still didn't even know what he was doing though. He knew every little detail about the kitchen. But he continued to look around as if  it was all new to him.

He just felt it was right.

He picked up some of the forks and other cutlery that lived in the draw, laying them out on the table and inspecting them thoroughly. He genuinely didn't have a clue what the hell he was doing but something in his head was telling him not to stop. So he didn't. He made sure all the cutlery was laid out in a perfect pattern, examining them once more. He picked up a small knife they used for cutting fruit. He ran it over his finger, not realising how sharp it really was. It drew blood and he winced, quickly swilling it under the cold water of their kitchen sink. He then went back to the knife, and looked at the blood mark he left.

He stood there, holding the small knife, staring at it with disgust. But he just couldn't put it down. He held onto it as if it were glued to his hand. He didn't even know why...

He just felt it was right.

He turned it over and ran the un-sharp side over his finger again, then over his hand, then over his wrist, then-

'Dan?' Suddenly, the light switched on and a sleepy Kyle wandered into the kitchen to see what was going on.

He looked at the layout of cutlery on the counter and then looked at Dan, holding the knife. There was still a bit of blood that had dried on it that Kyle had noticed. 'Dan what are you doing?!' He suddenly grabbed the knife from Dan's hands, placing it on the counter then grabbed Dan's wrists and studied them carefully.

'No, Kyle! It's not what you think!' Dan didn't pull away but he spoke as if he were trying to.

'Then what's going on? Are you okay?' Kyle was worried which made Dan feel horrible.

'Nothing, I'm okay.'

'Dan, why is there cutlery laid out on the table and why is there blood on that knife?' Kyle now sounded even more worried. He ran his fingers through his hair and then pulled Dan into  a tight hug. When Dan pulled away, he spoke,

'I don't know what I was doing. I just came downstairs looking at everything...I don't know why. It's like my mind was telling me to. I started looking at all the forks and spoons and knives but I forgot how sharp that one was and cut my finger on accident.' He looked down at his still stinging finger. 'I'm sorry.'

'Dan, baby. Come here!' Kyle pulled Dan into an even tighter hug. 'Don't be sorry okay. It's not your fault. Let's go back to bed and I'll clear this up in the morning, alright?'

'Yeah. Thank you Kyle.'

'It's alright babe. Oh! before we go upstairs, let me look at your finger.'

'Kyle it's fine.'

'Dan.'

'Ky, honestly.'

'Dan.'

'Fine.' Dan held out his hand to Kyle who took a careful look at  it.

'You washed it out didn't you?'

'Yup.'

'Alright. And it doesn't hurt?'

'No, not really. It just stings a bit.'

'You sure you're alright?'

'Yes Kyle, Jesus Christ. It's only a small cut.'

'I know but I have to make sure you're alright.' He kissed Dan's finger lightly and then held onto his hand as they walked upstairs.

'I'm not going to die from a small cut on my finger babe.'

'Shut up and let me take care of you yeah?'

'Alright, alright.'

Dan sat down and Kyle ruffled his hair while getting into bed next to him.

'You were all sleepy and confused so I've got to make sure you don't wander off again now.'

'Don't stay awake for me.'

'I won't, but I'll just make sure that If  you move, I'll know.'

'I love you, you know.'

'I know.' Kyle cuddled close to Dan, wrapping his arms around him like a teddy. 'I suppose I love you too.'

'Oh.'

'Dannyyyyy'

'Sorry' Dan laughed slightly and pecked the tip on Kyles nose.

Kyle fell asleep, still worried. Dan's obviously got something going on in his head. And he is determined to find out.
