One step

Mckenzie's POV

We're parked in the Dairy Queen parking lot eating ice cream in his car.

"Ok. I'm going to tell you why I just had that nightmare." I take a deep breath and begin,"My ex-boyfriend Jackson Barnes was best and worst boyfriend I've ever had. We dated twice. The first time, I was a freshmen in high school. We dated for about four months, then he left me for another girl. The second time was during the summer right be for my sophomore year began. We dated for about four months then too. Things were a bit more serious than the last time we dated. We talked on the phone and he talked to me differently. He would send me sweet texts in the morning and more of the racy ones at night. It was a long distance relationship. One day I asked him if he had ever loved a girl as much as loved me. He said no. Little did I know, that the entire time he was cheating on me. He asked us both out on the same day. Her name is Sydney Jacobs. When I confronted him about it, he told me that he forgot we we're dating. So I broke up with him. I was depressed for the rest of the month. I cried my self to sleep. I had dreams about him almost kissing me. I always wake up before he does. Today was different. He did kiss me but then he was kissing her right in front of me. He had her against the wall. He was smiling at me the whole time. You woke me up before they started anything else. That's why I thanked you." I'm crying again.

He's speechless. He just kinda looks at me.

I actually feel much better now that I've talked about it with someone. But I hate that it's with him. Now he knows why I can't love anyone again.

"Wow." he finally says. "He sounds like an ass." We both laugh.

"I agree." I smile. "Do you want to go back to my house and watch a movie?"

"Sure."

Niall's POV

We're sitting on the couch watching "The Little Mermaid". She picked it out but she's passed out right now with her head on my shoulder. I move positions so I am lying down with her head on my chest and her arm around my waist. She's almost lying on top of me.

She looks so beautiful and peaceful when she sleeps. Like an angel. My angel. I've only met this girl today and I'm already calling her mine.

After she told me the story behind her nightmares. I remember her screams and the pain on her face when she told me. I will do anything to make Jackson Barnes pay for what he did to her. Anything. She deserves so much more. She deserves a better man. And it going to be me.

Her telling me all that today is just one step that I've taken to gain her trust. I plan to fully have it so she can be free to love again. Free to love me.
