Emily

Beep beep beep, beep beep beep, BEEP BEEP BE- Without even lifting my head, my alarm clock was blasted to smithereens. Oops? Simply pressing snooze was probably a better idea. I turned over to look at the time but all that was left was the poor clock's ashes. I groaned and literally rolled out of bed. I hit the floor with a thump, my neighbors below me hate me anyway. Then my door swung open.

"I have some news!" My mom's voice sang. I sat up. "They rehired me! No more long ER days for me." She did a dance in my doorway. I gasped and jumped up.

"That's amazing!" My mom had gotten fired from her job at the CCPD after they got a new captain. Let's just say that my mom is a very stubborn lady and the old captain was a lot more patient. However, she was one of the greatest detectives ever to work there. My guess was that they had to rehire her after all these metahumans began appearing.

"I start today!" We both did our awkward happy dances. "And I'll be home by 6 not midnight." I ran and gave her a hug. We haven't had a normal dinner together in forever.

Once she left I quickly got ready. But of course I was running late. I made sure I brought my suit, just in case and ran down two flights of stairs and out my building's door. I sighed, the bus was already there waiting for me. Quickly I ran to the bus and almost tripped up the stairs.

"Sorry." I groaned. And as usual the bus driver just grunted with annoyance at me. I found my usual seat next to Cassidy and tried to catch my breath.

"I bet you wish you had super speed not invisibility right about now." I shushed her and looked around to see if anyone heard. "What? Everyone is either too tired to notice or has their nose in their phone."

"Whatever, but I have a name now, you know." I grinned.

"Uh Emily, duh." She said confused. I blinked.

"I mean a superhero name."

"Like what, The Human Flashlight?" She started laughing so hard that people started staring.

"No stupid, it's Spectra." She stopped laughing but didn't look impressed.

"Oh. That's boring." I rolled my eyes.

"Well Lucas and I thought it was cool." I crossed my arms and Cassidy began giggling.

"Speaking of Lucas! I saw the picture his mom posted. Looked like you had fun yesterday." My face turned red.

"You saw that?! I just hoped that no one even followed her." I covered my face with my hands.

"Well my mom showed me, his mom is followed by a lot of parents around here. They are kind of famous for some of their sciencey stuff I guess." I groaned. "Here I'll pull it up." She opened instagram and found it. "Ooh, 300 likes. Don't worry, I bet no one here even saw it." I stole the phone from her hands and looked at the list of people that liked it. Unfortunately, I recognized a lot of people in my Chem class which I had that day. Cass took her phone back and I kind of just sat there, staring straight ahead of me.

Eventually the bus driver opened the doors but I just wanted to stay on that bus forever. Alright, I know now that I was being very dramatic but that's what teenagers do best. The sane and logical part of me knew that even if anybody remembered it now, they would forget by the end of the week. But not much of me is sane or logical so I was freaking out.

I made it through my day pretty easily until it was time for Chemistry. I was running late from my World History class so when I walked in just as the bell rang I already felt uncomfortable. But I noticed that nobody really cared. I sat down next to Lucas who gave me a faint smile. The class went normally and I couldn't believe how dramatic I had been that morning.
